The answer is Martinez, why we keep debating this is getting a little boring. He is the most important signing of the summer for us. The guy can play CM AMF CB and box to box. We buy this guy and we could recoup the money by selling Kolo, MJ, Dejong, Savic, Boyata and Weiss. We would still be stronger and the reduction in wages would be significant. Our 4th CB should be one of the youngsters coming through.

Are you saying sign him as a first choice midfielder and use him as third choice CB? Don't know about that it would mean you have to weaken the midfield as well if you get injuries/suspensions at CB. Martinez is only one person he can play all those positions but not at the same time. What happens if he gets injured?

We have Barry and Milner, don't see a problem really.

Serdar Tasci's agent says we are interested in him.....good player and will provide competition for Lescott and will cost around 12-14m pounds....we should be considering him ahead of skrtel

While it would have been be nice to sign a Martinez or Thiago Silva, are we really that short of back up options?
Kolo didn't become a bad player all of a sudden. Richards has played very well at CB. Then, I would personally 'risk' Rekik or Boyata over Savic. I have a feeling we could be pleasantly surprise how quickly this lad Rekik matures.
In my view it would be better to take a chance on some youngsters than have a slightly past it or B- CB come in as back up.

I wish it was as easy as that mate. We need cover at centre at centre half, kolo is not good enough if lescott or vinny especially get injured for a length of a time, savic is not good enough yet and should be sent out on loan. its ok saying richards can play there (which he can) but that would leave only zab at right back and with so much football that isnt good enough, when your wanting to win the premier league and go far in the champions league risking players who arnt ready is just stupid, i think rekik will be world class however to put him in there now would be beyond risky when cover can be brought in who is experienced, as far boyata, he is not good enough to be starting for us.

Cahill would have been perfect.

I disagree,so did Wenger, hence why he sold him.

Kolo has never been the same since his illness (Malaria?) age is now against him, combined effect equals not good enough.

The problem with this thinking, is that it presumes we will always have Kompany playing. The reality is this, a Kompanyless City backline is a disaster. Pure and simple. Sure we are good, when it is Kompany/Lescott or Kompany/Toure or Kompany/Richard, perhaps even Kompany/Savic. But any other combination that excludes Kompany, has proven to be a disaster in the making.

For that reason, we need another top notch CD. And NO, Lescott is NOT a first class rated CD. He is good, and had many good games for us last season. But he cannot command a back-line, and lacks the footballing technique to fully cover for Kompany. Any suggestions to the contrary, is just blinkers on!
