Definately Yaya for me, the thing is he has actually played in these different positions and at a high level. Don't think the likes of Ronaldo or Rooney could play at CB in a Champs League final. So all round player Yaya with probably Busquets going close.

But best player....Messi by a mile.

Yaya.
Schweinsteiger.
J Martinez

All ridiculously versatile.

Yaya is 2nd only to Messi (and maybe Glauber Berti)

My mate Dave from the dog and duck.
Not been discovered yet but after 6 pints and a pack of 20 he can play anywhere on the pitch

It used to be Gerrard. In his prime he could do everything

You may have a point OP, purely because I can't see Messi doing a job at centre half. If teams were composed of 11 clones of one player then Yaya would be hard to beat that's for sure.

But still Zambia did, didn't they?

Yaya is definitely up there. So is Kompany to be fair, could do a job in CDM & CM. Overall I would say Yaya, Schewieinsteger (?), Ronaldo, Rooney, (still overrated tho) & Xabi Alonso are definitely the top all round players. Oh and Essien if he can get back to the player he was before his injury. Lucio too.
