Is anyone else following the situation at Wolves and thinking about to City in the mid 90s? Really think the Wolves board were expecting managers to jump at the chance of joining them and it hasn't happened.

We had a manager that was doing a half decent job with the funds he had in Horton yet he was sacked with the thought that we could get a top manager in because we were a big club and look what happened then. Frannie appointed Ball then god knows how many managers came in over the next few years, then we had the drops in divisions and uncertainty until Bernstein came in to steady the ship and the rest is history.

It just made me realise how far we have come and how lucky we are at the moment. Should never forget that.

Ah, those heady days - Dave Bassett "slept on it" and changed his mind about taking the job and George Graham said he wanted the job but it turned out he never put in an application!

Happy to see them go down, as it will mean one less North West team going out of the league. If Villa continue their form they could get dragged in, and I would love to see that.

Would love Burnley are Blackpool to come up, but it looks unlikely both will get in the playoffs.

I tend to think of Sheffield Wednesday myself but that's more of a fan thing. Do agree about the Wolves board though. Seems that they have been chasing everyone and there was a time around 1996/7 when we were getting linked with Bassett, George Graham etc but nobody would come so I guess it is similar in that respect.

I remember being angry when Bassett turned it down! I also remember prior to Horton being told to get to the bookies and put money on Gerry Francis being appointed as it was a dead cert.

Why any club would sack a manager without having someone lined up and ready to go these days is just beyond me. Mind you when we did it we got loads of shit but that was presumably because we were replacing good old sparky with a nasty foreigner.

I recall Francis Lee (after Horton was sacked) saying the new manager will be one of the top 6 European managers.
Franz Beckenbaur (a friend of Lee's) was one of the names mentioned.... the weeks went on, Lee was said to be ready to take pre season training as no manager had been appointed after weeks of trying..... then enter stage left Alan Ball.....

The hypocrisy in the media is astounding. On twitter their saying that Wolves have demonstrated bad management over firing McCarthy. When City sacked Hughes and Mancini was ready to take the job we got so much stick

I remember at the time Mancini came in thinking that the same press slagging us off for going behind Hughes back would have slagged us off if we'd sacked him without having someone lined up.
