Coentrao has put in some poor performances this year and it really shows that he is a converted winger ( I've seen clips on Youtube where he is playing from the RW). As opposed to playing the majority of CL games, he played 8 compared to Marcelo's 7, a marginal difference plus some of those appearances are when he played as holding Midfielder. Whilst Marcelo played 32 games as opposed to coentrao's 20, and for an attacking FB coentrao only made 2 assists and scored no goals where as Marcelo assisted 9 and scored 3. I would rather have Jordi Alba than Coentrao as he assisted 5 goals in the the league and scored 2, he looks more like he understands the role of an attacking fullback whilst coentrao always appears as a frustrated winger. In short Clichy is without a doubt a better LB than Coentrao as he far outshines him in a defensive sense and coentrao has n't demonstrated the end product in the attacking third that may balance that out.
