The thing that incensed me about this when I read it this morning is that he tries to make out that it was all just a bit of harmless fun and never had any impact on the results of games.

But slamming the ball out for a throw in or corner in the first minute of a game (or at any other time for that matter) can have an indirect impact on the result. And he even mentions penalties, without going into any further details.

I find it all just as reprehensible as purposely letting a goal in; it's cheating the paying public, as simple as that.

Agree, if I take a different route down a street my life will end up being different somehow.

Maybe them throw ins ended up to a keeper sooner who done a route 1 to the striker and scored.

I get a feeling we'll soon hear about goals let in deliberately soon enough

What does he mean when he says they bet on "who started with the ball"? If he means kick off, how can this be fixed between the 2 teams. Whoever wins the toin coss gets choice of ends and the loser gets to kick off. Or am i missing something as this would mean the ref would have to be in on it?

??????

Never captained a football team then?

You get the choice - possession or choice of ends.

Not anymore. The rules were changed in the late 90s.

But you're right for at least part of Lundeknam's career.

He was a god awful defender, it used to amaze me that they used to stay up every year with the likes of Monkou, Benali and Lundekvam and whoever else they had at the back. Them and Coventry were the jammiest teams in England for a decade! lol

When I played the winner of the toss could choose ends or take kick off.

It's since changed, presumably in an attempt to stop nonsense like this going on.

I have been a ref for 19 years now and it was one of the 1st things we were taught on the course. Winner of the toss gets choice of ends, loser gets to kick off. I remember when Morley & Bishop were kicking the ball straight out from kick offs when they were at West Ham. There was an anonomous source saying that they were spread betting on the time of 1st throw in, but the only problem being if they WON the toss. It constantly amazes me how many people on here are ignorant of the most basic laws of the game.

No one remember Quin use to stand next to the kippax on the half way line every home game and we'd kick it to him and it just missed his head every kick off , first or second half ?
