Thinking of getting myself a Taylor Grand Auditorium next month. Needed a decent guitar for a long time. Anyone recommend anything? Looking at the two grand ish mark

2k can get you a really nice guitar. Forsyths in Manchester is the best for the higher end stuff. If I had that sort of money my first choice would be a Martin D28 but I like dreadnoughts.

Toneworld in Ancoats have a really good range of Martins in stock.

Lovely guitar. Never did get round to learning how to play one.

Jesus, I felt guilty about ordering a pizza when I came in pissed last night. Now I don't feel so bad! That must've set you back some.

Gibson J-200 might just come in on budget.

I used to have one. Honestly it was rubbish. Their quality control is really shoddy and it sounded like it had a quilt stuffed in the soundhole.

All the majors have crossed my mind. Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Guild, Takamine. Also been looking at some of the more obscure smaller brands. I know 2 grand's a lot of cash but about right for the kind of guitar I'm after. I'm thinking high end. It needs to be the kind of guitar I'll still be playing in thirty years. Spending all day on youtube researching models but I suppose I won;t know my guitar until I fell it in my arms. Can hardly wait.

Maton guitars are really nice. They're an Australian brand and something a little bit different than everyone else has. Not that easy to find although there are UK stockists.

Yeah, I've looked at Matons as well. Neil Finn uses them so they must be good. Interesting woods, I suppose. It's a decision I'm not taking lightly. Need to pick up a few and get stuck in. Played my mate's Taylor a few months back and fell in love, so I'm leaning towards them at the minute. On a side note, I wonder if anyone's got a resonator? Wouldn't mind getting one at some point.

No, genuine story! Came in about 4am went onto Ebay to see how the stuff I was selling was going on. Did a search for Rory Gallagher with a view to buying a DVD. Saw that and bought it. Got up Sunday, logged on to my laptop and was greeted with a receipt for £1200!

Nearly as sobering as the thank you for purchasing your Sigma 800mm telephoto lens from Henrys of Ontario!

1974 Antoria 2386, pre-serial, all original but the knobs and bridge. Had this one for 30+ years.

And a stock photo of my other one, a 1976 Ibanez Destroyer, all original with some sourced replacement tuners. Don't even look at the sustain on this one. No offers.

Oh, and as for amps, don't stand in front of this. 1964 Selmer T&B Croc skin Mk I, with a 30-watt output transformer, makes it one of the very early ones. I play it on 0.5 because the neighbours want to live.

These all go with an Ethos Overdrive. Now ask me if I have any money. Or insurance. Or shoes.

You're telling me you spent 1200 on a guitar and you don't play?! There's 3 guitars in that photo, well a guitar and 2 other cases. Is that a photo you took?

Yes I did buy it even though I can't play. I've done dafter things and I've got a feeling I'll do some more.

Not my photo just googled it. I did have some that I used when I put it on Ebay but I've no idea where they'l be if I kept them. Sold it to a guy called Jed in Harrogate who was a massive Rory fan so it went to a good home in the end. He thought I was barmy too by the way.
