Born in St Marys, lived in Brooks Bar and then Cheadle (not stockport)

I think of myself as Mancunian. Not that it matters, i think of myself as a blue first and foremost

it takes me 30 mins car journey to get to the eithad, if i get a certain train i can be in the arndale centre shopping within 20 mins after leaving my house but i'm not a mancunian.

but if i'm abroad or elsewhere in the country and i hear anyone slag manchester off i'll defend it. to be honest i'd say anyone in salford, bury, stockport, oldham, rochdale, denton, ashton etc etc can class themselves as a manc.

maybe not as far as bolton or wigan but certainly those within the vicinity. the lads i used to work with in hyde had a stronger manc accent than the lad who sits next to me at city and he live's 10 mins walk away from the etihad and has lived in the area all his life.

Manchester has a smaller population than Greater Manchester, the political vandalism that carved up the Greater Manchester Council into arbitrary parcels has done immense damage to the north west.
Divide and conquer is an old old tactic, reinforcing tribal instincts, turning neighbour on neighbour, council against council, preventing any coordinated policies on transport, health, education. Worst of all it keeps the arch -clown Karney in a job.
Being "proud" of where you are born is hollow, as no one has any influence on where they are born. "Grateful" would be a better description. Choosing to live here is more "manc" than being born here.
Many BM posters take delight in the theatre of debt not being in Manchester, in reality it just reinforces how a once great city has been carved up

Can someone tell me a simple definition of what constitutes a Mancunian?

Someone born within the city of Manchester limits ....

doesn't matter how far you travel in the world , how long you're away , or what nationality you adopt , if you were born in Manchester you'll always be a Mancunian .... that's where your home town is , and that's where your roots truly lie!

I was born in Bradford , Manchester ...... only yards from the Etihad Stadium ...... i'll always be a Manc , even though , at times , i've lived in both Cheshire and Bury.

yep, you are what you are. i was born where deansgate meets chester road, so no choice, i'm a manc.

Probably get crucified for this but I still think of myself as a Mancunian despite not living there since 1996.

Born in Withington hospital 1976 and lived in Chorlton until 1996, since then I have lived in Somerset (x4 years), Surrey (x1 year), Brighton (x1 year), Stockport (x3 years), Ashton (x5 years) and currently live in Dublin.

Just because I work elsewhere does not mean I have lost my soul, I was born and raised as a Manc, my roots are in Manchester and all my close family still live there and I am back most weekends, so I still feel as Manc as the rest of you.

Absolutely ......

you can take the man out of Manc , but you can never take the Manc out of a man !

Damn right!

I was born and dragged up in North Manchester for my first 21 years, lived in Australia for the last 26 years. I'm a fucking Mancunian.

(Or am i an Aussie Manc or a Manc Aussie?) Confused myself now.

Not saying this map is wrong, but it's daft isn't it? The City 'Centre' is on the edge! So someone who lives right next to the city centre isn't a mancunian, despite living closer than a 'mancunian' who lives all the way in southern Wythy!

If you lived west of the city centre you'd be a Salfordian.

Salfordian and Lancastrian :D

Expert ;)
