Bloody love this show! Even thought the story line is essentially the same thing from a different point of view, it's still so captivating.

Two of my favourites are: the one where they sail to Venezuela. That episode was quality. Another good one is where this woman gets with a geeky looking fella, takes him over to Peru on a holiday. She gets caught taking back a shit load of coke and he gets lumped in with her even though he knew nothing about it. His prison conditions were some of the worst I've seen on the show as well. Poor guy!

I've read the damage done its a very good book there's another one called in the shadow of pappilion which is pretty good.

As for the 2 guys from Nottingham they've got a book out too, called banged up abroad: hellhole"

Same for the The bloke in bolivia sure his is called "marching powder" he fell in love in the prison if I remember rightly. Doesnt mention in the book if he tried to get back in contact with the woman after he was released though which annoyed me lol. Anyone remember if it was mentioned in the show?

My bro is a prison officer so we tend to buy a lot of these books.

Funny you should mention this, I'm just watching Midnight Express. Now there's a film to put you off doing dumb shit overseas.

The film is just the basic story, a lot of what happened in the film did not really happen.

You should read the book, far, far better than the film.

This is part and parcel of Hollywood. If they say a film is "based on a true story", you can bet your ass its 90% bullshit with an ounce of truth thrown in. Nat geo did a LOCKED UP ABROAD episode about Billy Hayes, the main protagonist of said film, and most of the film was bullshit.

'Send Them to Hell' by Sebastian Williams is another worthwhile read on this subject. Very harrowing indeed.

Saw the one about the guy who was forced to eat 43 giant hot dogs with extra hot jalapenos in half an hour in Philadelphia while they filmed him.
