City’s £16m for Herr

MANCHESTER CITY are after the ‘Spanish Steven Gerrard’ for £16million.

Athletic Bilbao star Ander Herrera was watched by chief scout Rob Newman and football officer Brian Marwood in Wednesday’s draw at Granada.

They were again impressed by the 22-year-old midfielder, who is likened by many in Spain to Liverpool’s Gerrard.

Manchester United were also interested but City’s midweek visit has seen them steal a march on their rivals.

Herrera still has four years to run on his deal but wants Champions League football.

Martinez wasn;t even a midfielder this year. And they are really good as a team and not individuals. Herrera is one of the most skilled of the midfielders. And he has that engine and hustle. He was a starter on their U21 team last year. And he is really intelligent and Spanish technique is topnotch (As if the Spanaids make em any other way :P). Very good player to get. He is in the Silva, Nasri mode.

This is a perfect transfer. But it would spell the end for Milner, at least in attacking positions. I think City are looking to have a constant set of attacking players likened to the next.

He just switched to Athletic this year. So I don't know how true this is.
