I was born in Bury, lived in Bury most part of my life, many people I have grown up with in this town have had some form of connection with Manchester, whether it was being born there, working there, family from there whatever....
Yet because they don't live in Manchester, this makes them less Mancunian than say some Ugandan refugee who has just moved into a council house in Manchester?
My accent is some weird mix of Bury-Bolton-Heywood-Manchester lol, with many ancestors I've managed to trace living for many years in Manchester - Yet I'm not Mancunian as I wasn't born, I don't live there...
