I think, as France's GF v GA is 3-1 and England's is 4-3, we just have to better France's result.
So if France win 1-0 and we win 2-0, I think we would top the group on goals scored since the GD will be the same.
Maths not your strong point
A 1-0 French win and a 2-0 English win would give us both +3 Goal Difference (4-1 for France, 6-3 for England), England would finish top of the group by virtue of scoring 6 times compared with France's 4 times.
He's almost right, bettering France's result
should be enough to win the group, the only proviso is if the French score 1 more than we do in the process. For example if we win 2-0 and the French win 3-2 then that gives us both +3 Goal Difference, we've both scored 6 times and conceded 3. However, even in this scenario, I think UEFA use FIFA Wrld reankings to separate the teams, and England are ranked higher than the French. However should England win 2-0 and the French win 4-3 then they would win the group by virtue of scoring more goals (7 to England's 6), however that's highly unlikely.
Qualification from the group is much easier to quantify, we just need to avoid defeat to the Ukraine.
