Kolo didn't become a bad player all of a sudden.

I disagree,so did Wenger, hence why he sold him.

Kolo has never been the same since his illness (Malaria?) age is now against him, combined effect equals not good enough.

Wenger also sold Clichy amongst claims that he was holding back Gibbs

Over the years my estimation of Wenger has gone down, and largely down to the joke that is Arsenal's defence.

We were right to sell Kolo tbf, 16m was a great deal. We got good service from him, Wenger made him from a decent utility player into a EPL centre-back. Although he was never a natural defender, more relyin on physical attributes to recover.

Is Agger the answer?

I rate him and would be very happy with his purchase but, other than a utility type signing - DDR,Martinez etc....,is there a better alternative out there?

Kyriakos papadopolous, top defender but young and wont demand to play all the time. would grow into a first name on the team sheet type of player once lescott ages slightly.

Right, say Agger doesn't join because of his loyalty to Liverpool...
Who's the alternative that we go after? I don't mean some youngster with a lot of potential like Sakho or Papadopoulos, I mean an experienced (not seasoned) defender who's going to compete with Lescott for his place in the team (or 3-5-2). So, any suggestions?
Oh and I'm not flapping..well, just a little

If we want Premier League proven, Coloccini or Jagielka could be good signings. If we want a good foreign defender at a reasonable price, Diego Godin is available and apparently on our radar.

Could have saved ourselves a headache really and bought Vertonghen.

Subject sums it up, we need cover at centre half, the feeling i had when kompany supposedly had a serious injury wasnt good.

Now i ask, do we go for a world class centre half to challenge and perhaps become first choice over jolean or do we get a good centre half who is more willing to play rotation and 3rd choice behind jolean and vinny.

Who would you all like to see come in?

My choice would be the young centre half from schalke who plays for greece kyriakos papadopoulos, i feel he would be perfect as he is a very good defender already who i feel would be happy to rotate with jolean aswell as having the potential to become world class and eventually becoming first choice with vincent when lescott ages more.

i siad this LAST august, it was never addressed and it very nearly cost us. agger, skirtal even bloody samba but we need someone.

tbh I'm more interested to what happens with savic, say we do get agger would he still stick around or do we already have some deal in place that would be able to loan him out to another side that can give him experience for the season

MANCHESTER CITY LINE UP £17M MOVE FOR SCHALKE STARLET KYRIAKOS PAPADOPOULOS

£17m-rated Papadopoulos is also on the radar of Manchester United and AC Milan Sevilla winger Jesus Navas and Dortmund star Marco Reus are also high on Manchester City's wishlist

MANCHESTER CITY are lining up a £17m summer move for Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

Starsport understands talks between City and the 21-year-old's club Schalke have already begun.

And sources close to the German side claim the two clubs are on the verge of reaching an agreement.
