Green light for Hearts' Tynecastle stand in Edinburgh

Plans to rebuild the main stand at Tynecastle football stadium have been approved by Edinburgh city council.

About £11m will be spent on the upgrade at the Hearts ground. The current main stand was built in 1919.

The club hopes work will begin next month.

Hearts owner Ann Budge said last month that she hoped the work would be completed in September 2017. The new stand will increase the capacity to more than 7,200 from 4,720.

''2016 marks the 100th anniversary of The Battle of The Somme, where more than a million soldiers were killed or seriously wounded.

The anniversary is a poignant reminder of all who made the ultimate sacrifice, including the first three Heart of Midlothian players who were killed in the service of their country on the first day of the Somme as part of the legendary McCrae’s Battalion. Many more of the team and their pals in the Battalion would suffer the same fate during the Great War.

As per recent years, the club has commissioned a special version of its current home jersey; one that honours the fallen and commemorates those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year however, we have introduced a special design to remember the Battle of the Somme. All additional profits made by the sale of this shirt will be donated to Poppy Scotland and selected Veterans charities.

The first team will wear this jersey in their Ladbrokes Premiership match against St Johnstone on the 5th November at Tynecastle. Each player named in the Hearts squad for this match is presented with his jersey, as is traditional at the Remembrance match.

The shirt, priced at £55, will be limited in numbers and is now available for pre-order. It will be available on the 25th October.

To order please visit www.heartsdirect.co.uk or visit the club store on McLeod Street

All of these limited edition shirts will come with a certificate of authentication.''

well all go at Tynecastle
2nd in the league after humping Sevco midweek, demolition of old stand underway
but we seem to have lost our manager to the roundabouts of Milton Keynes
very forgetful

Easy win against sevco.
Manager off though.Liked Robbie,will be a miss.
Looked to have found another decent forward in Johnsen.

It has all went tits up.
New manager finding it tough.
No fight in the team.
Knocked out of the cup by hibs, with a bad as a display in a derby game in years.
Went from second to fourth with a poor run of form.
Aberdeen now looking good for second.

shite end to the season but feelgood factor is back
new main stand almost complete
backbone of British players in place
Newcastle friendly tonight
