I agree.

After spending +120 million pound on Mangala,Otamendi and Stones it seem Kolarov is the best CB we have right now.

Well done to Pep for changing his position.
I actually think Stones and Kolarov are on equal footing (and both have made their share of mistakes this season)—it's just that neither can handle covering for Otamendi's cavalier style. I'm not even sure Kompany would be able to on a regular basis.

They seem to be our best pairing and allow our play out of the back to work.

Thinks he's Pique or Ramos now.

One shot to the ribs and bang he was down. What a softie.

Either fishing or a moronic comment.

I'll assume the former and give you a pass.

I'm with BJL. A ball to the chest and he went down like he'd been shot, leaving us a man light in the box. Dave took one in the knackers late on and played on, nearly setting up a third.

Kolarov the "hard man"

Hold still and let me punch you just at the arc of your last rib.

Ok, now go out there and play! What? You want a second to recover?

Softie.

Faultless. And what a passer of the ball. By far the best defender the way Pep wants them. Kolarov never seems to panic when having the ball. Definitely needs to stick around another year. Lefty CBs are rare. Rightly praised on here. At last.

Ironically the team is yet to lose(in the league) when kolarov and otamendi start together and average better points compared with when stones and kolarov start together. What I would say though is that both stones and otamendi perform considerably better with Kolarov beside them than they do when they start together. In fact Kolarov might be the most important part of the defence going forward for the rest of the season as he offers the team so much balance

He really has had renaissance under Pep, I was a fan and defended him for a long time but by the end of last season I wanted him away as much as everyone else.

Somewhat similar to David Luiz at Chelsea in that when both are told to stay back and deep, they've both really upped their respective performances as they no longer have to jump in and out of position constantly.

MotM for me as well. That ball he played to Sterling was phenomenal. Surely he's earned another contract?. If I had my choice we keep him, vinnie, and nico for another year.

His ability to go past a man and open up space makes a huge difference to how effectively we can build out from the back. He's not really quick enough for fullback but he's a yard quicker than the average center back and on a few occasions he pushed past a player or two and opened the whole thing up for us. Reminiscent of Frank de Boer or Siniša Mihajović back in the day. Always partial to a cultured left-footed center back.

That's a good point and adds so much value. Nico does this effectively as well. John as the ability, and he was getting forward early in the year but he's a bit lackadaisical and it cost us at times. We've been having him take the more conservative options lately and it's working out well.

If Silva wasn't MOTM yesterday then Kolarov probably would've been. The most remarkable turnaround in a players' City career I can remember.

He was first on my personal list of who Pep would let go. Suppose that's why he is a footballing coach genius and I'm a not very good armchair critic. Fair play to Aleks, he has resurrected his City career in a way I couldn't have imagined. Thought he was strong defensively when he needed to be and his range of passing just extraordinary. Must have earned himself another season.

I thought him & Stones had almost nothing to do, & still managed to create several openings for Sunderland due to negligence & sometimes quite hopeless passing. A couple of moments of good defending but that's what they are there for. Good defending should be the norm, not something they get a pat on the back for. They had 3 free headers from corners. It isn't Aguero's job to stop that, but it is someone's & normally, right in the middle of our box, you'd guess it's a centre back who is detailed to stop it.

Not convinced by either, but at least Stones is young.

Pep deserves massive credit for identifying his ability to play in central defence, where he looks a totally different player.
