Stoke post match thread

I hate players who are capable giving so much more than they currently give.

Clichy has the potential to be the best LB in the league but doesn't have the self belief.

I've seen he offer nothing going forward for the past 3 seasons and he is incapable of challenging an opponent in the air.

Add to the fact he constantly gets ripped to shreds by average wingers then it's no surprise I don't rate him.

If he attempted to attack and lost the ballon could accept it. But he's shit scared of attacking and constantly slows down any attack to play the easy option.
He's not the reason we didn't win tonight , get a grip

He's a good pro and has served us well, give the guy a bit of respect

In isolation yes these results do happen - but there is no denying that our home form has cost us dearly this season. We have the best record in the league away from home, so there is definitely an underlying issue that Pep needs to resolve.

Four extremely poor draws against Everton, Boro, Southampton & Stoke.

i suppose mate. i think any team would find it difficult to break these teams down. boro especially had all the players behind the ball. away from homes a different story as usually the home team come out and attack.

It wasn't a bad decision. You always have to be careful with youngsters to prevent burning them out. Sterling had a so so performance last match so pep might have thought he could rotate him. Besides we should have enough quality in the squad to rest sterling and silva and still handle stoke at home. It's just that our main attacking players like aguero and kdb didn't play well today. Hindsight is 20/20.
Exactly Sterling has been arguably our most important player he was a vital piece in our attack from the start of the season, Sané on the other hand was still settling and used sparingly while he did so.

Silva do we really need to say why it's a good idea to rest Silva? With the games coming up, with the amount of play going through him recently in so many games back to back, with the amount of injuries he's picked up in the past few seasons; probably due to being given enough rest when he needs it?

Both poor players in my eyes.

Bridge is hated because he had the audacity to see his contract out. I dislike Clichy because as a footballer I think he's a coward.

People are entitled to disagree. But I'm basing my opinion on Clichy over the past 3 seasons.
Know where your coming from mate and I didn't hate Bridge, but honestly for me, no

We were flat but I think people are creating a crisis out of nothing again, as I said in the match thread they were a back 6 at times even on a counter I saw 3 blue City shirts in their half and 8 still back in theirs. When teams are playing like that you could do with extra men in their half to catch them by surprise and keep them from getting comfortable by outnumbering us.

Simply put we could have done with some top attacking fullbacks to help us along to get that vital 1st goal, we don't have that... we haven't had many nights like tonight to put up with, any team in the world is capable of a flat performance... any talk that we haven't moved on/progressed as a team from the Pellegrini era shows a lack of basic understanding of football IMO.

Sensible post amongst a huge amount of idiocy. I am critical of the performance but it wasn't total shite. One shot out of twelve on target was crap though.

Two thing:
1. Navas where balls go to die
2. Yaya not fast enough to play as the front man in a midfield 2.

For a quiet man he makes the team shift does our proper captain (Silva), not knocking kun but we kicked into life then. That is not great, we should have been ready from the start as we were extremely lethargic.

No injuries, not knackered still right in with cl for next season should we not win it this year, fair enough. A few players were not at the races either which did not help.

Meh, bad day at the office and credit to Stoke, they did their job well.
Disappointing but not the end of the world.
The majority of our home support are complete fucking shit though, 40000 people sat tutting and groaning, piss poor tonight.

As soon as the starting X1 was announced I did worry that this was going to be one of those nights. Without Silva we do seem to struggle with creativity at times.
Home form has been our undoing in the Premier League this season.

For those slagging off Clichy can you honestly say he was responsible in not being able to beat Stoke

He's not solely responsible but he's part of the reason. He is a defensive liability against the better sides and offer nothing offensively against the weaker sides.

Shame we can never seem to hit the net against these 'bus parking' teams. We only seem to be able to ply against teams that want to attack. When we come up against defensive sides, we can't seem to unlock them.

For the past few days I was looking to the game because I thought our good football was back. It's great to not just hope for a great result.

But now the magic sauce is squirted all over the floor again. Everyone was just a bit off form when it counted I thought. I'll go back to looking forward to us simply getting the result. :-)

PS Clichy is too old to wander about. His legs and lungs are gone senile.

For all people slag Clichy and I would agree his form has dipped over the past season significantly None of Stokes better attacks came down our left and the only really decent chance they got Clichy got in a block to make it easy for Caballero.

Navas was dreadful as he is whenever he starts, and particularly against physically imposing bus parkers. He does a good job coming off the bench to stretch tired opponents, but he's a lightweight waste of space on nights like tonight, every single time. And I thank the Lord we will no longer have to watch Clichy turn and run backwards or play inaccurate passes after this season, and that's without even starting on his piss weak defending. We created enough chances to have won tonight after Dave came on, but we badly need to buy some penalty box muscle in the summer for games against boring lumpen bastards like Stoke. The parked bus is our single biggest Achilles Heel

I'd be tempted to buy Llorente, he might be prepared to be a backup at City.

Navas? Seriously might as well play with 10men, & kdb has been shit for last mth at least, hes a fuckin lightweight in tackling

While he's resting can he be trained to hit the target from five yards out.

Kolarov man of match for me.

We had enough possession to win but we did not work their keeper enough, again.

Silva made a major difference when he came on.
