Monaco - Post Match thread.

There seems to be a lot on here that are surprised we lost. I'm gutted but to be honest Monaco were the hungrier side over the two legs and I wasn't a but surprised we let in 3 goals in that game, at that level and even lesser levels that defence isn't good enough. The sooner Pep wakes up to that the better.

I don't know what Pep had in mind, but there are some questions left now:

- Was Yaya injured? If not, he HAD to start - or immediately get on after the 1-2

- Remember the 1st leg? Sagna was poor, Zab came on and the party started. Zab simply HAD to come on tonight, for some spirit!

- Why did Sagna rotate through the defence and we conceded 2 early goals without a right back in position? Wtf? Anybody??

- Why did Pep announce the big attack and 1st half was just the opposite?

Caballero sadly doesn't leave his line to pick any long cross. He has the physicality, but doesn't get out.

Dinho is a defensive holding midfielder, but if responsible for the build-up he fails. Yaya, Silva or KDB have to start attacks.

Pep himself couldn't field a confident and mentally strong TEAM. His fault. Instead of keeping it easy and compact for the players available he made it too complicated.

Pep has been outthought and the players have been outfought. Sadly.
I really didn't expect that. Says something about character in the team I'm afraid.

Great post my friend.

You missed out Zabaleta and Silva, all bought by the previous management structure.

True, but Vinny, Yaya & Aguero were the central spine, who often pulled something out of the bag in the big games.

This team, with those 3 at their peak, would be far & away better than the previous two teams imo. But now, we have to find new ones & a new Zabba too.

Jesus may be the answer up front, but how the fuck we replace Vinny & Yaya & to a lesser extent Zabba, I have no idea. Gundogan is a top player but he's no yaya & I haven't seen a decent cb anywhere.

I'm watching the highlights and on their first goal Aguero and sane were in the fullback position while clichy and Sagna were standing next to each other at the other full back spot, what the fuck was going on there?

In that case Txiki has fucking failed , just like he has done for two fucking seasons .

That's another discussion, but I'd argue without Txiki we wouldn't get Pep.

I can't deny his failure to refresh the squad adequately has been unacceptable, though he has had his hands tied somewhat by the fact no teams want to take our aging, overpaid underperformers that we seek to replace.

Well the sky has fallen
Apparently
The boys weren't up for it today
Lack of intensity was the culprit for me
Can't figure out why
Couldn't crack their midfield trap in the first half and were pinned back
Hats off to Monaco and good luck in the draw
On to the dippers
No time to dally
Welcome to the big leagues Blues
3 huge games in a row
Hopefully these losses temper the young ones
It was a game of two halves. We weren't in it 1st half. They weren't in it 2nd half, and yet they drew the 2nd 1-1. We should have won the tie after getting back to 1-2. can City recover for Liverpool. This was a massive game. Much bigger for the players than Liverpool.

But then again, improving has to be the priority. So if we can't shift, loan them out.

Simeone is an obvious one but there are 3 better pound for pound managers when comparing teams in the current premier league top 4 currently, but the dogmatic pursuit of one manager has undermined us since 2014, and it isn't obviously just the managers fault.

It is like the Kaka failed signing but with a manager, no one sees past the hype.
You want simeone.? It's shit football to watch , but how many trouphies has he won ?
1 league title. 1 Europa league. 6 years in charge. You've given our manager 9 months and fucked him off . Your probably right.

Nothing much wrong with the defensive players who were left to it by the midfield. Desperately needed YaYa in the middle as we were just bullied in there and couldn't keep the ball. Our short passing was simply terrible.

Monaco worked very hard and cleverly to close down the passing lines but we made it easy by being sooooo passive and barely moving. Same kind of performance against stoke for me. We don't have the kind of players that can bully and be physical (YaYa is really the only player that can) so we have to move, move, move. If we dont move we are just rubbish. So many times our players were isolated out wide and no one was supporting or overlapping and the team looked knackered.

Poor use of subs. Needed YaYa in the first half and zabba in the 2nd. Disappointed but not surprised

Ok I am as gutted as everyone and baffled at times with some of the tactics and the inability of top players at times to not be able to perform the basics and shit themselves on the big occasion. I have had a rant too. I am now going to try to get some perspective on it.

Before the season we all knew this squad probably wasn't good enough. Yes we made some decent additions but our main areas, an ageing midfield and defence weren't really addressed. I stopped typing to watch the highlights and I echo what Keane said, we need at least SIX top, top additions in our weak areas to improve and get where we want to be. Sagna, Clichy, Kolorov, Fern, Otemendi are all really not good enough and our stellar players are another year older. I see Aguero going too if Pep can get his type of forward to replace him and join Jesus up front. KDB is probably going to stay but I wouldn't be 100% on that he too often goes missing in big games.

We need to try and cement top four and if we pick up the FA cup on the way it will be a bonus.

Fuckin gutted!

What happened to us in the first half was beyond comprehension. It was clear we were outnumbered in the middle and that Fernandinho needed help, I just don't get why it took until the second half to see this is where our problem lay.

KDB dropping back as a deeper lying play-maker made all the difference in the 2nd half. Our finishing also let us down & our chances were few & far between. Sterling should have been selfish and took the shot instead of passing to Aguero but bad decision making summed up our evening, but is also great in hindsight.

All in all I have no complaints as the marginally better side over the two legs deservedly won. My ambition for this season was to comfortably gain qualification for next seasons CL, so if we can pick up an FA Cup along the way, that's even better still.

Our 3 year plan to get us back on track and beyond where we were 4 years ago is still on and Pep obviously has the full support of those who matter to create a squad in his own image. Finally for all those fuckin stinkin Rags who've been plauging me since the final whistle tonight, hear this...... The irony that we've been knocked out at the latter stages of the elite European competition you so covet, by Europe's form team, seems to be lost on you knuckle dragging, toothless fucks!

But but .... We weren't shit second half though.

And that's the problem , it's as much a mentality issue - when was the last time we put in a top drawer away performance in the CL ? Or in the PL for that matter- we consistently underachieve in the big away games , Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, Madrid, Barca, Dortmund, Napoli , Ajax , Monaco - its fucking endless how many times we fucking choke.

Coupled with substandard defenders then it's no surprise.

Scoring 6 and going out is a fucking embarrassment,

Mentally weak.
