Arsenal Post Match Thread.

Good result, seemed like we were in absolute control and heading for a 3-0 win before Sanchez started running at Navas and infected nervousness throughout the whole team.

Can see why Navas was played considering Fernandinho was needed in midfield and Zabaleta's lack of pace but still unbelievably irritating to watch.

I'm not really arsed whether we finish top 4 or not. The CL does nothing for me and going through the huge re-building of the team, it might be more beneficial to go into the Europa League and bleed in some talented youngsters. United, Spurs and Liverpool have all benefitted from that and it allowed Chelsea to re-build their side a few years back. Also, the Europa is a winnable competition whereas the way we play we are still far away from winning the CL. In regards to the calibre of player the CL will help us attract, there's not a chance a year out the CL will impact things. Not when Pep is the gaffer and the wages on offer.

These sort of performances don't surprise me anymore. Too many players are simply not up to scratch and haven't been for a while. However, what is disappointing is the mentality of this side. We have the mentality of a lesser side playing the big boys away from home. How many times have people seen the likes of Burnley or Stoke go to Old Trafford, miss a sitter and then their head drops and they concede? That is exactly where we are at but only we do it when we are winning.

Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal, to name a few, are games when we have had a lead, missed very good chances and allowed our heads to drop. That 7 points dropped in the big games this season from being in a winning position and whilst I have 100% faith in Pep, it does raise questions about his game management.
The Champions League is absolutely vital. Liverpool aren't even in the Europa League whilst Spurs European season was a shambles. Who did Utd blood in te Europa league. City v Monaco and City v Barcelona are what it is all about. But the carelessness today was unacceptable

no cause neville is rright...the back 4/5 is poor.....baring stones they can all go for me especially if we cn get money for any of them it will be a steal on our part.

Agree.

Stones still has a lot to learn but is the best Pep type defender we have.

If we go into the season with any of the others in our starting defensive line up we will have another season like this one defensively .

he is going for the ball wth his head having quickly turned and spu around.....he makes a slight contact with his head first....

its not a penalty and the ref is right.....woudl ahve been very very harsh....if it hits his hand first then possibly but again it aint deliberate as people on here are suggesting
Absolute bullshit... natural arm position eh? All of sly sports say you're wrong... they got away with one end of story.

Is it bad that I agree with Gary more than Pep?

Clichy, Sagna, Zabaleta, Navas, Caballero and maybe Otamendi will all leave this summer I reckon.

If Madrid offered our money back for Nico he can leave.
Dont think Pep would disagree but he wont say it nor should he, but they will all be gone except Stones and probably Kolarov.

Not a disaster but keeps them at bay for now.

Our weaknesses were there for all to see and we shall address them in the summer.

We should be able to finish top four most likely fighting Liverpool for third now but still a lot of work to do.

Strange performance, started like a house on fire and took the lead. Then went into our shell till they scored then exploded again and lead at half time. Second half was a non event for us , as we nevr really got going. Thought that although Sterling wasnt great 1st half , we really missed him in the second.

I'm too bored with this team now to even bother getting annoyed, I may show a bit of interest if we get to the cup final. Roll on next year and fingers crossed someone at the club realises you need more than soft technically gifted midgets to be a decent team.

Bang on mate, going to be fucking shit atmosphere at the rest of the home games , might just raise a murmur in the derby.

They were terrified about our attacking prowess in the first half. Pep when interviewed after the game... " Sterling substitution tactical". To quote Bill... "Genius". So frustrated, needed to keep taking the game to them, rather than hoping to protect a 2-1 lead!

I don't care what you believe that was a penalty all day long.

Also putting chances away was your excuse for Luiz being allowed to stay on the pitch being ok.

Haha so in one sentance you say you dont care what i belive and then int he next you expect someone to belive what you are saying...no point in debate i see

I didt day luiz deserved to stay on the pitch....he should have gone....but that wasnt the reason we lost the chelski game....we lost it cause we missed chances and we were poor defemsively .....

keep making excuses as when people do this (and if pep is doing it - i dont know that he is) then we wont improve on that performance and i can genuinely say that there was a lot to improve on in that perfomrnace from our perspective and improving on it we would have won....
1) retaining possession better....especailly with balls out from the back 4 into midfield...either the pass was poor or the person collecting the ball ( a lot of this was KDB) wasnt good enough
2......poor passing whe moving into spaces where chances could have materliased if the passess 1-2 passes before the final pass wpuld have come should have been better.
3. better defending - clichy falling alseep, ottomendi not charging around like a moron, better markign from corners

all the above we can effect.....go into games relying on getting refereeing decisoins will not help us improve

I didn't think it was a penalty until I just saw that video.
How anybody can watch that and still think it wasn't need their eyes testing.
Well done that man, I don't mind if people genuinely didn't see it clearly at the time but there's no need to defend a bad decision no matter how bad we played when it's so easy to see.

Agree.

Stones still has a lot to learn but is the best Pep type defender we have.

If we go into the season with any of the others in our starting defensive line up we will have another season like this one defensively .

Stones has been very good recently and appears to be developing into the player we hoped for.

Kev for 90 mins, and Sterling for 45, were absolutely abysmal, should be embarrassed.

Yaya proved why he would have been an absolute disaster against Monaco.

Love Leroy, never stops running and he retained possession very well today, Raz should watch and take note.

Say what you want about players and formations, the fact is, some of our play today was beyond a joke. I've not seen us give the ball away so often and with so little regard to winning it back in a long time. There were many culprits so no point singling anybody out but fair to say when they sit together and watch that back tomomorrow morning there will be a few shifting in their seats.
Very disappointing tbh.

I thought we never got out of second gear, almost as if we had one eye on Wednesday and were conserving energy. Frustrating performance.
