Dele Alli

He's an incredible talent considering he's just turning 21. His statistics are incredible. He's a natural born winner and you can see that in his ill discipline at times that comes from being frustrated his side isn't winning.

Like others, I struggle to see how he fits in our side. He's more physical and dynamic than De Bruyne and Silva, and scores more than them (though I expect De Bruyne to improve on that side of things, he's just had an off year). If he were to sign then he has to play in a no.10 role. He can't play deeper because he's so much better playing in the opposition's half. You then have to sacrifice De Bruyne or Silva, unless you shift De Bruyne wide.

I'm sure we'll be interested in him, but his fee will be huge (though likely only to rise). When you look at some of our academy talents, whilst you can't guarantee they'll be as good, or anywhere near, do we purchase players in other positions and allow De Bruyne and Silva to continue to flourish until the likes of Diaz/Foden come through?

Looking at the bigger picture, it shows that young players can do it, even if raw at first. They just need game time. His rise has been unbelievable, but it's because he's had faith from his manager to go and play his game. He's not been too protected. Have we got talents like that already in our academy, that just need the same treatment?

I can't get over how few goals De Bruyne has scored for us - it's starting to really annoy me. He had 16 in his last season at Wolfsburg, and with the better quality of players, better manager etc. I expected him to be getting 20 per season with us.

oh please do try and engage some brain. i respect and enjoy your opinion on this site most the time but you're creating a trivial argument here.
i meant to play a number 8 with a number 10. with one further forward than the other.

Ok so who are you binning, Silva or De Bruyne?

was talking about league goals.

as for g jesus comment, poster mentioned he was an example of someone better than dele alli who is u21. i was simply saying you can't compare the two, ones been injured for months and as you say, played only a few games

Why make the distinction of league goals? Mbappé's Champions league goals not worth counting?

You're really going out of your way to exaggerate Alli's contributions in this thread. Don't know if it's shiny new toy syndrome or something else, but it seems immediately apparent that he's a good player, who's never played under pressure, who doesn't fit our team because he's not better than the players we already have, and breaking the world transfer record to buy players who don't fit in the team is something only United would do.

well as alli is such a young player and silva is much older, i think eventually he would replace him in midfield.

and i'm simply making the distinction after my very first comment being 'wow alli has scored as many league goals as aguero and zlatan'.
okay fair enough to discount other competitions is cutting the cake abit, but this kids talent cannot be exaggerated. he's scored 16 league goals from midfield this season!

edit: can i say that dybala possibly plays in a similar position, and he scored half as many league goals. i mean come on, name me a better u21 in the world right now

But he hasn't! He doesn't play in midfield, he's basically Kane's striking partner. Calling him a midfielder is like calling Messi a midfielder - in fact Messi is usually deeper than Alli.

He's very good, doesn't mean we should get him.

he's definitely not a striker and calling him that is not fair. he does play in a very advanced role but does some of the dirty work in midfield, occasionally going out wide.

for the cost, our current squad status, maybe it's not a good idea to get him. but if he moves away from spurs, we should get him here

Non starter as he will not leave London and Spurs wouldn't sell to us anyhow. He will be off to Spain if he leaves at all. That said what we wouldn't give for a 15 -18 goal a season midfielder rather than the plethora of 6-8 goal guys we have now - maybe a fit Gundogan can address that?

Ive seen enough of Gundogan to think he will score 15+ goals a season reminds me so much of Lampard they way he makes his late runs into the box.

De bruyne should have around 15 goals this season, likewise sterling and silva. In fact I think gundogan would have had around that if not for his injury. I believe all these players will improve on that outcome next season as the current season has been a weird one where everyone's finishing seems to have gone to crap except for aguero and even then he's also wasted a few clear chances aswel.

In regards to Dele Alli, for a 20 year old the things he's done the past two seasons can't be understated. He has this canny ability that prime Lampard had where he is always at the right place for the ball to fall into around the box. His movement and tactical intelligence around the final third is simply quite incredible and he has very good technique when striking the ball. He has all the tools in him to potentially become a genuine World class star who can grace the likes of Madrid. But this season, pochettino has basically released him from all defensive responsibilities with their setup with two defensive-minded midfielders behind him to protect. He is frequently their most advanced player when they are on the break and while that system has contributed to the incredible season he's having especially goal-scoring wise, I'm also afraid it might stun some of his all round game and progress in the other aspects of his play. Last season even with less numbers, his all-round game seemed much more impressive to me than it has this season. He was almost a box-to-box player who could tackle, link-play, read the game very well, could see passes and make them more consistently and was just much better in most aspects of his game.

I wouldn't say he's regressed in those aspects but this season, I've not been that impressed with his game outside of the final third and we know how much pep values his midfielders to be able to perform in all facets of their game including defensive awareness and discipline. In fact since the turn of the year, I've seen both him and Barkley play consistently and would argue Barkley has improved considerably in those aspects of his game in the build up phase than Dele Alli has but you wouldn't notice looking at pure numbers and I say this as someone who hasn't been the biggest Barkley fan prior. In the Everton vs Spurs game especially that they won 3-2 a couple of weeks ago, I thought Barkley was the one who showed more intelligence to his play and was the much better player in that game yet finished it with only an assist while alli who was a peripheral figure most of the game finished with a goal and an assist.

Don't get me wrong I still rate him and believe he has more in him to become the much better player but if they both continue on their trajectory, I can see Barkley being the one better at adapting to different systems particularly with the current one pep uses as he would have more intelligence and awareness to play in it than Alli would have. Currently De bruyne is the much superior technical player to Delle Alli yet look how much of a struggle and learning curve this season has been for him under pep's demands, Alli would probably struggle even more than De bruyne as he's not currently close to being as intelligent or technical. For the price that would be touted for him (Alli), I don't think he has enough in him yet to play to the standards he has for tottenham in this current City side and system with Pep.

Can't understand anyone who watches football, and doesn't want Alli at City. He's exactly the type of midfielder we're crying out for.

I'd be delighted to sign Alli but I can't see Spurs selling to an English club and certainly not less a world record fee and dealing with Levy would be a nightmare.
