We'd concede less if we scored more.

Our failures to convert opportunities up front put greater pressure, especially mental, on the defence and increase the chances of error. Also, we give teams far more of a chance than we should in games, get ourselves two or three ahead more often and earlier in games and the weaker opponents will just go for damage limitation. Confidence in our team builds and we defend better - as a team - (so long as complacency does not rear its ugly mug).

Virtuous circles.
Spot on!

Seems like there might be something to this. But i think it would be the end of Aguero.

Sane, Jesus, Aguero, Sterling and Sanchez would be insane. But replacing Aguero with Sanchez would be sad,

I just wonder if Pep is thinking of bringing Silva back into a deep playmaker role, and having a forward four of Jesus or Aguero with Sterling behind, Sane and Sanchez wider... Insane...

That would mean a midfield potentially of Silva, KDB and Ilkay, ideal for a possession based game where we expect to dominate the ball, but a bit lightweight?

Buzzing for this. Fantastic player that would improve us in so many ways but especially in mentality- the will to win.

I don't worry about where he fits in. That's up to Pep and frankly he has form in that area :-)

You don't get many champions conceding as many goals as we have or will by the end of the season to be fair.

We've missed chances but we've also conceded a fair few as well.

'Many' being the operative word- a pep team will outscore the opposition due to potency and the knock on is that a teams heads drop, perfect example is Chelsea at home, no chance on earth we concede 3 should KDB or Sergio take what is expected, pep has said as much this very weekend and alluded to it in his book...

I'm not discounting the impact of the defence, however, this was to be expected due to the nature of the system, it's why some are subjective in there views on components of that defence, what wasn't expected was the decline up top, not because we haven't been creating chances either!

Nb/: the title winning season(s) we scored almost 100 on average each season, we are somewhat 40 goals away from that at present, against 29/38 conceded... if we'd scored half of that amount more, we'd be siting pretty!

We've also conceded countless goals because we've managed to not score and had to throw people forwards and over-commit to force a goal.

My dad will be pleased he's been on at City signing him for about 18 months.

With this breaking so early I suspect Aguero will go and this seems to be happening. Sanchez gives us a little insurance as he's tried and tested and I guess we'll get more for Aguero than we pay for Sanchez. Sanchez can play wide and deeper too. Hard to imagine Aguero not in a City shirt.

This absolutely has to be fixed if Pep is to succeed.

I think our defending at times is comically inept,& that doesn't surprise me in the slightest, considering the players in it, but our attacking players are right up there with the best & Aguero from two seasons ago, would have won us the title comfortably, irrespective of the defence & we would still be in the Champ's Lg.

Fix the efficiency of the attack & although we will still get turned over occasionally & bomb out of the occasional competition, we will win most games we play & win plenty of trophies including the big ones. And have fun doing it.

Always liked Sanchez, reminds me a lot of Tevez. I had hoped that when Pellers was in charge that being a fellow Chilean he could be tempted here instead of Arsenal. Wasn't to be then but was very encouraged when at the end of the Arsenal game Pep could be seen with his arm round Sanche's shoulder having a quiet chat.

I think pellegrini had stated before that we wanted sanchez but due to FFP at the time they couldn't make the deal happen? hopefully this time we can get it done asap!

Good reference to Tevez above

I posted something substantial last week saying how we miss a proper, proper bas*ard in the team. Someone who will run through brick walls to drag the team over the line

SIGN THE FUCKER.

Do I think we need him? No.

Do I think we'll be able to keep Aguero, Sanchez, Sane, Sterling, Jesus in one squad? No.

But if a player of his quality is available, it's silly not to go for it in my opinion. Some good references to Tevez/Van Persie, and I tend to agree - could be a catalyst for us next season bringing in someone of his quality & tenacity.

Do fear for Aguero if we brought him in, but it's a long way off currently, and we still have plenty of games left - and of course there's the unlikely possibility of us not being in CL next season, which you'd imagine would kill this deal pretty quickly in itself.

Definitely a believe it when I see it one.

I took that as a bad sign. Dont think Pep would have indulged in such a public display of tapping up a player.

Yup. Pep is all about dominating the opposition and it starts from the front.
