He's such a card! He loves to stink up a place with his guff, but there's no fun in it for him, if he's not surrounded by a gaggle of sycophants sniffing it with delight.

Makes a lot of sense...

May's real reason for calling election? To show EU that Brexit really means Brexit

Of the many reasons Theresa May supplied for calling a general election, the Conservative leader provided one particularly important one. She believes she still needs to convince her European counterparts that Brexit does indeed mean Brexit.

Have you any thoughts on it or do you just want to talk about me?

Its nothing to do with Brexit.....Its because the police have announced that on the 3 June a number of tory mps (30) will know whether they are to be prosecuted for election fraud or not

she's dodging a bullet .....just a typical tory tactic

I think it's a bold move by maggette. She didnt need to take a risk. She wants clarity and stability for the country.full marks I say.
It can only be a positive having a full mandate going into negotiations. Fully behind this decision, I can't see Labour doing much. IF the Lib Dems get Blair on board, then it's an easy win for May. Should that happen, the only interesting bit left over will be what happens up North.

Even if she only gets a slightly increased majority that will help and more importantly she will have 'reset' the clock with there being a full 5 years for her to cement the outcome of the Brexit negotiations - all very sensible.

Love the way that she has pulled the rug from under those that have enjoyed playing games - sniping away on the side

Anyway, all the Remain champions should be happy - they wanted a 2nd vote and they have it.

It's not 5 full years mate it's 3 + 2 ;-)

It'll be the lowest turn out in modern day history. Some ringing endorsement that'll be! One constant in life, as in sport, is always doing what your opponents least want you to do. If the Labour Party had any balls, which sadly they don't, they'd abstain this afternoon, she'd get no election and look a right muppet. The NHS and the rest of what is left of public services are in for the mother of all batterings over the next few years but will still look fairly terrible in 2020. Why they are letting her pull the trigger, when everything is stacked in her favour, is unfathomable.

But surely if a Conservative victory would indeed be so bad there should be a massive turnout by motivated Remainers and supporters of the other parties.

I'd imagine non-Labour voters (who Labour would need to persuade) would view them refusing to fight a general election as a massive lack of balls. It's an admission that they don't think they can win, so why should the public vote for them to win?
