In the week that followed, as Liverpool negotiated privately with Chelsea and as they inched closer to an agreement that would make Torres the subject of the highest transfer deal in English history, stories began to circulate in the press claiming that Torres had ‘verbally’ requested a transfer. Doesn't surprise me at all. Look at the way the Sterling transfer was handled. Granted, Sterling wanted to leave but it was clear they were leaking things to the press to make him look like a scumbag.
