It's Quiet - a new dawn

Personally would like the bench next year to have plenty of our own youngsters on it. Tosin, Roberts, Brahim et al

As for the XI i don't think completely altering it in one window is going to get us a league winning side. Chelsea bought Alonso and Kante and that was enough. We need a couple more than that.

...............Ederson
Walker
....Stones Otamendi...Mendy
.............Fabinho
..........
Silva.....Gundongan
Jesus.......Kun..........Sane

subs

Sterling, KDB, Fernandino, Kompany, Kolarov, Bravo, Kelechi, Garcia, Maffeo

Just with those 4 signings we already look a whole different team and look at the strength on the bench.

Bearing in mind Jesus and Gundongan are pretty new to the team, adding more than 4 new guys is going to lead to another transitional season.

In terms of cost, what are we looking at for these 4?
This is a good post, because it helps to see that we may not have to buy 8-10 players to get what looks like a very potent team.

Leaving it to me to flap then?

If Billy's info is correct, it's all a bit meh isn't it? I know the worlds biggest blues on here would jizz themselves at any signing - but does anyone else hope we'd go all out to blow the rest of the teams away and give Pep a serious team to work with?

Pickford and Walker? I hope we're not going to go the route we did of the likes of Garcia, Rodwell etc. We need more than mediocre signings.

But we aren't going to just buy Pickford and Walker, are we?

FFS calm down folk.

And Oh look you've forgotten the Southampton game we won 3:0.on

Weak, and incorrect stats, to argue a point I've just said can't be argued with just looking at the scorelines, the difference in the cohesion between the CB's is clear for everyone (nearly everyone) to see.

He's obviously our best center half and we're obviously better with him in than without him. I can and I will use scorelines to keep hammering my point over and over and over again.

Rank our center halves. It's 1) Vinnie. 2) Nico 3) Stones 4) AK.

Mix and match all 4 of them anyway you like and the results aren't affected much. There' 80m spent on Otamendi and Stones. Now we're going to SPEND ANOTHER 40-65 on VVD/Laporte/Bonucci. We won the league with a 4m Martin Demichellis and we could have won it on a free Alexander Kolarov if a few things broke our way. But instead we spent 40m on mangala 30m on nico 50m on stones and another 40-60 AGAIN. It's insanity. A 170m spent. The gap in skill level between Wes Morgan or any Random CB for a random mid-table team and someone like vincent kompany isn't that big. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. 170m spent and three of them don't even start the first game of the season with Vincent partnering. 170m well spent city.

We potentially got to the finish line on Pogba and Mbappe and we won't spend the extra 30m or whatever it takes.

I think you are taking crazy pills because I can't believe anyone really thinks what you just wrote.

Come on lads, Sterling isn't even close to Jesus. Sterling has shocking passing/shooting technique for a "potential world class player" whilst Jesus has no attribute that is shocking for even a professional footballer. Jesus also has way more desire to win and even play the game. I'm glad Pep chooses the side.

7 players are on a bench, so if you cut your 9 man bench down then Garcia and Maffeo go, we have a normal bench with no youngsters on it.

Think that's harsh.

Only problem I have with Sterling is that sometimes he's mentally not there to grab the game by its neck and make something happen i.e. this last weekend.

I mean, of @BillyShears 's list, only Sanchez (who looks pretty nailed on) and potentially Bonucci would be considered world class.

That's not a slight. Walker, Mendy and Pickford are good players, but honestly we can do better.

It could be we are in for them, though there's good reason to doubt, but it smacks of a risky gamble the club should be avoiding after selling Pep short this season.

We are selling on players, even if Kun isn't included then we should make a decent amount. Can't see why we'd settle for Pickford and Walker, even if they are English, that being the case.

Do you not understand value at all? You know what 50m gets you? It gets you PFA player of the year caliber impact players. We won 18 games with a dope that everyone wanted off the team and he was just as effective as our 50m signing despite never playing the position and he even was 1st choice over him for a period.

Well if people who claim he is world class or will be could tell me another world class player who's ever had worse passing/shooting then his passing/shooting won't be as bad as I thought. On the desire part, Sterling has shown me nothing to make me think he what's it more than Jesus.

Sterling needs spacing to create for us. It is normally Silva who is the one who opens the game up for Sterling to move on in to so he can be as effective as possible. Not sure Sterling can do what Hazard, Sanchez, Robben, Neymar, Messi, Bale etc are capable of. The overriding point is, Jesus starts over Sterling everyday and whoever doesn't think so are being dismissive of Jesus.

TBF Walker's arguably the best RB in the league. Mendy is currently considered the brightest left back prospect in Europe. These aren't just 'okay' players, they're both players who would improve our current team immeasurably.

I can't really make a call on Pickford don't know enough about him. Sanchez/Coman are obvious.

Seems much ado about nothing even if these guys are our targets. It's NOTHING like signing Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell for example.

not sure anyone could argue against that

From where you get the impression that Sanchez is nailed on mate??

Just so I'm clear on MBappe...did you say the difference in the valuation was about 20m?

Griezmann's agent listed City as expressing interest, but said the rags have shown the most interest of all. £100m release clause :/

I don't disagree about Walker per cent, though I do still think we could do better for what will arguably be a small fortune that Levy will demand.

I think the lack of talk of a playmaker, defensive midfielder and centre back are probably just as worrying.

Maks Cardenas, who first broke the Bravo to City story, said Sanchez wants City.

Walker is the best RB in the league I just think everyone hates him because...well he's a massive knob. Also at 27 for the inevitable 50m or whatever it will cost and the painful experience of dealing with Levy...it's just hard to get excited.

Also I'm concerned at the idea Walker is not seen as vital to Pochettino. He knows the player better than anyone and if he saying it's time to get rid, I'm not sure we should go charging in.

Walker is a Micah Richards hybrid, you'll get 2/3 max years out of him in a pep team, especially on the back of the two he's just had with Spurs, we won't be going anywhere near him, thankfully... that's not because I've been told but because he's 27 in May and the money we'd have to pay, measured against return, doesn't add up....

Walker also struggles from playing out from the back, more so than any of the other defensive line. Now if it's for a wing back role, fine, however, it's a stretch that we'll buy just to facilitate that...

The perfect player is fabinho and the one I personally think we'll get!!!

During the season there will be plenty of injuries which will mean youngsters get plenty of opportunities on the bench.
The main point of my post was however not the one you chose to comment on.

Fabinho's said he doesn't want to play RB.
