The Boxing thread

Congrats to Joshua, damn good fight.

Can't help liking Klitschko more, seems a genuine classy guy - AJ seems heavily manufactured for the cameras, he lets more of his real personality show in the ring with his late punches & laughing in the opponents face etc. Although saying that he's a heck of a lot more likable than 95% of the other guys, so if he's to hold the mantle down there could be far worse.

That was fantastic from AJ... all the talk from the casuals calling people who rate him casuals can stop now he's the real deal(I never understood why some were so dead against giving him some credit, all the talk about his muscles and bullshine about steroid it's just odd how people write someone off so soon). For me he's shown tonight he's got so much more in his arsenal than Wilder and he's improving with every fight, his confidence will skyrocket now I fancy him to stop Fury too, who for his size doesn't have the knockout power you'd expect and he's been knocked down by Steve Cunningham too so not really got the best chin either.

Fury will have seen those 6th-9th rounds and how Klitschko outboxed him and he'll be licking his lips.

I think AJ would do better to take on Wilder first.

Be interesting because i think both Fury and Wilder will think they can beat AJ regardless of this win. Fury when he beat Klitschko did it a hell of a lot easier than AJ did tonight - Fury will have recognised that. Wilder would be looking at AJ lack of defence which is evident.

The main thing is that heavyweight boxing is back and will grab the headlines again

When Fury beat Klitchco, it was close. It was down to who had thrown the most punches and i counted 3 by Fury ;-)

Both men come out winners from that fight.

There has always been a lot of negativity towards the Klitchkos, especially in Britain, when you consider that they dominated the heavyweight division for the best part of a decade. Maybe it's the fact that Britain has been lacking a top class heavyweight during their reign that they haven't got the credit they deserve. However, its that performance at the age of 41 that will cement his legacy over here. What a pro, gent and champion.

Joshua though looks unreal. The fact it's took a boxer in the calibre of Wladimir to test him speaks volumes. He made mistakes tonight but got the job done. He's only going to get better and I don't see any of the other champions getting anywhere near him.

I wouldn't just say the UK mate - if anything, it's been worse in the States and neither brother has gotten the recognition they deserve until recently. It's a shame because they were the only 2 that kept the division going for long periods but now things are looking more competive in the heavyweight division just when one brother has already retired and the other is surely close to it.

I imagine AJ's camp will know that Fury of 2015 would beat him pretty comprehensively, but I suppose no one knows what Fury is going to come back, and Joshua will only get better.

Klitschko didn't throw nearly enough punches that fight(we know AJ will), he was so much better tonight to be fair to him, rolled back the years.

Yep. Think AJ getting put on his arse will do him more good than harm.
Make him realise they are other heavyweights out there that can punch, too.

True he's also shown he has a good chin, another question answered fully tonight for all his doubters. It was good to see that he didn't panic, did all the right things after the knockdown.

As they said on sky, I hope Fury uses this fight tonight as his inspiration to get back into shape, it's a long road after seeing the size of him the other week.

Best heavyweight fight in 20 years that..

A younger fighter though, with the engine to sustain pressure, would have AJ in trouble imo...

Wlad is a great ambassador for the sport and should walk away now with his legacy in tact!

I agree and it's easy to mistake more competition with more quality.

The heavyweight division is no better than it has been for the last decade in terms of quality.

Tonight was the first time AJ has been in with a top quality operator and he's been world champion for over a year. It speaks volumes that you can hold a world title without having pushed yourself. None of the other champions look special either.

AJ has taken over the Klitchko mantle and will go on to dominate the division. Wilder and Parker are average boxers and will be found out by the end of the year.
