Benjamin Mendy

i'm confused on something, hopefully someone can clarify.

i thought we had transfer windows for negotiations and confirming transfers. I understand those out of contract like Zabba being announced early etc. but i thought the summer window doesnt start til June?

How did we get it done outside of a window and do we actually need windows?
Don't think he can be registered unti 1st July

Please can people help me out here? How good is Mendy? What are his strengths and weaknesses. I've only seen him play against us, I don't have time to watch all the other leagues like I used to :(

He seems a bit limited technically, other than his crossing ability, but with extraordinary physical attributes?

Very quick, direct, strong, great final ball. Better going forward no doubt, and can get caught out positionally when defending, but positional play can be coached.

YouTube his assist for Mbappe's opening goal at home to Dortmund and ask yourself the last time we had a full back who could do that.

Don't tell me he's just the french Kolarov!

We need fullbacks that can defend as well for a change

Did you miss the bit about very quick?
Seriously I don't think he is anything like Kolarov from the limited times I have seen him, however I wouldn't say he was strong defensively.
I think Pep and co can improve the defensive side of his game, though, it's actually fairly good to begin with.

Pep's first goal will be fullbacks that fit his system, though, so I wouldn't hold your breath for a slow bruiser that never lets anything by him.

I would have thought we would have made sure we had numbers agreed before releasing players to avoid that scenario. But, not our money so all good
I don't think one has much of an effect on the other. Just coz we are in the market for fullbacks doesn't mean we will be hosed. We will be hosed when we pretend only one player fits the bill.

Right now the following are all able fullbacks, Sandro, Gaya, Marcelo, Bernat, Alba, Alaba, Grimaldo, Hector, Heinrich and Perreira amongst others are all very good and technical fullbacks of which any can come in and take to Pep's instructions. So we shouldn't be worrying about getting hosed. There are no Dani Alves's or Lahms out there

You pretty much have him down perfectly. IMHO that is :-)

On the few occasions I have seen him, he has reminded me of a much more talented version of Taiwo. Is he a good enough footballer for a Pep team, though? Whilst he's undoubtedly a fantastic athlete with a great left foot, he does appear to be somewhat ungainly and clumsy in possession sometimes. There's a distinct shortage of high quality full-backs in the world today. :(

PL window opened today mate although due to contracts normally running up till the end of June, July 1st has become the go to day.

thank you. i was that confused i thought i was posting in the Bernardo Silva welcome thread ... me and heat doesnt work lol
