It's June 6, knee-jerk reactions like this are totally unjustified.

If Mendy wants to come, he'll come. Of course Monaco are trying to convince him to stay, that's to be expected.

Difference this year is: Clichy's gone. We need a new fullback and we'll be getting one. At this point, it's Mendy.

I can understand the "knee-jerk" reactions tho mate....Sandro to Mendy to Bertrand is enough to make anyone panic!;) I personally think we could just be putting this out there to put pressure on Monaco/Mendy to stop playing games and get on with it...next few weeks should be interesting!

Maybe we always planned to sign both Bertrand AND Mendy? I dont think anyone can argue we need 3 or 4 new players for the fullback position.

Kolarov permanently a backup central defender, and perhaps we only just closed the door on Virgil Van Dijk?
 
I'd assume City always knew Mendy would cost upwards of £40m. My best guess is it's a ploy to put pressure on Monaco.

If it isn't, Bertrand is a fine 7/10 player. Not the best LB around, but very dependable.
 
Of course Monaco are playing hardball. They are going to have to rebuild their squad this summer and aren't going to let their prize assets walk for the first offer that comes in.

Didn't Khaldoon say it'd be a similar number of players we sign every summer, which is about 5/6(not including youth)?

Very disappointing. What good is money if it only sits in the bank? They're losing Mendy just like they lost VVD.

The two are in no way connected. The same sources said we never bid on VVD. Here we are actively bidding on Mendy but getting gouged by Monaco. It's going to take time.

Mate keep telling yourself that. They lost VVD because Sam Lee already said it last week, strengthening the CB position wasn't that high on Pep's priorities, he wants his Mbappe, so VVD went to the manager who cares more about him.

Now we're losing Mendy and going after a lesser target. Lesser players will bring lesser results.

Would be another Clichy. Will be gutted if we get him.
 
Rags are ecstatic about this news on RC. I really hope this is not true.


IF for whatever reason Mendy doesnt come to us he better stay at Monaco...

You're not even making any sense.

1. If we weren't in on VVD, we didn't lose him. Sam Lee said we never even bid on him.

2. Kaveh is the only one hinting we are out on Mendy. Sam Lee is saying we are still in on him and could want both.

3. We are signing Kyle fucking Walker and he will cost a hell of a lot more than £40m, you better believe it.

4. That doesn't mean we should bend over and let Monaco gouge us. They are playing hard ball. So are we. It's early days, but we'll get our man.
 
Part of the game, we express jnterest elsewhere to make Monaco think a little, the next step is for a leak to come out from France that the rags and Chelsea are in for him.
 
Don't know what the panic is. It's going to be like this all summer so chill out. We'll have 2 options at full back. That's peps priority so any Bertrand deal is pretty irrelevant to any mendy deal. We'll either buy 2 left backs and no cd, or 1 left back and 1 cd as it's clear kolo is going to cover for either position.
