Ryan Bertrand

If he is a squad signing, I will be satisfied. If he is a first choice signing instead of Mendy, I will be very disappointed.
 
Has Sam Lee been right about anything this window? I know he is an "ITK", but his posts on twitter always make sure he save face incase he is wrong.

Mendy/Sandro/Bertrand will be great, but we need to finish the deals early since other big teams need fullbacks.

He has always seemed fairly solid to me. Perhaps Clyne would have been an option too if Liverpool had missed out on Champions' League football.

Did you listen to the POD that Billyshears did with him on 93:20? He was explaining the mechanics of transfer deals and reporting on them and how "Sources" can change there info within a timeframe of having a lunch.
I don't doubt he has various sources and contacts around City and the fringes (Agents and Players) and he listens to whats being offered up makes a decision of "Going with it" by weighing up if it makes sense down to listening to how many different sources are saying similar news. There's also "Halve truths" to sieve through and judge where other clubs and agents are jockeying "News" for their own agenda's.
Sam definitely isn't a WUM, but rather a good honest guy who lets us know what he can using information he has to determine if it is as close to a genuine truth as possible.
As we all know, and Tolmie also tells us this. There is always fluidity in transfers and the clubs transfer dealings are not all black and white and info can be invalid as soon as it leaves someone's lips due to no fault or intention to mislead.

Exactly, ITK's are doing qualified guessing. Their information obviously may change because the source was wrong, or because things simply change. It is all guess work, but fun none the less, and everyone can see we have a couple of very good ITK's on this forum.

I wouldn't say the word Guessing at all. They receive information from various sources that they trust and have provided them with reliable info in the past and they review it on the consistency across other sources coupled with prior information and put it out there. Sometimes that info stands on firm ground and holds water, sometimes that info may of been intentionally correct at the start of a chain and as we know things change and unfortunately doesn't happen. These guys run their reputation on their info they put out there. If you are basing your career on being a reliable journo, you are not going to risk putting out intentional rubbish as you just get sniffed out as either a WUM or not having the right gen so people don't follow/click on your blogs/articles.

The inpatient need for information in todays world provides a world of fierce competition to get news out there. Some will just put info out there on a whim and take the chance it might be right and work the numbers by putting so much stuff out there that 10% the volume might be right. (Indykaila) and some might put a place holder if they have a lead and want to get verification on the info before putting it out there and not put as much gen out there as they prefer to attempt to get accurate gen on the streets.

That's what I think too. They no doubt get snippets of info but that info can have been leaked for various reasons and doesn't have to have any basis in fact. We get linked with dozens of players every window but usually only end up buying 5 to 8 players so obviously more of it is wrong than right.

The only confirmed signing we have made so far is B Silva and nobody had any clue on that until it was pretty much done.

Due to that I was looking at online odds 2 weeks ago to see if it threw up any clues. The shortest odds on any player to us was indeed Bertrand.

I dont believe the good ones are guessing at all. I think they post what they believe is correct when they do. If something changes thereafter and it doesn't materialise, it doesn't make their initial post a guess
