It's Quiet - a new dawn

If there is a chance we could get Mbappe this window which would leave only 20 million in the kitty to sign a CB instead of 60 million then I would take the Mbappe deal all day long.

Considering it looks like we will be signing a world class forward in Sanchez and at least one more potentially world class forward in Silva, with more on their way, not signing a world class defender so we can sign another top attacker would be so stupid. Our season ended trophyless because we were far too top heavy as a side all season long and couldnt rely on the defence. To allow the squad imbalance to carry on for one more season, even if we were signing messi, is footballing suicide. You are only as good as your defence in football, attackers win games, defenders win titles.....

Without going through the last few pages, why is everyone talking about Mbappe? Is it another Twatter thingy? Or has Corbyn confirmed we're in for him.

If Pep thinks Mbappe is the player of his generation then I'll take Kola as cover for 12 months

Of course you would. Anybody with a brain would. If we have a chance to get Mbappe you don't say no. Some of the comments on this thread....

Pep was pretty clear that he thought our problem was finishing in the final third. Cliches are nice though...

Tolmie just said no on the CB....

If that's true then it's an idiotic strategy. We dropped points against pretty much each and everyone of our immediate rivals last season, because, in the absence of Kompany, we couldn't cope with the league's better forwards in wide open spaces, either physically or in terms of pace. If Kompany was guaranteed to stay fit then you could understand it, but history suggests that's a pipe dream and a totally unnecessary risk to take. We don't need Sanchez AND Mbappe and we certainly don't need to spunk a fortune on Neymar

Look at our goals conceded each season over the last 5 seasons and get back to us.

Look at the goals to shots conceded ratio last season (because that's the only one that's relevant given the way we now play - with the centre halves habitually exposed) and get back to me. If you think Stones, Otters and Kolarov is a trio that will secure the title you're dreaming. A fit Kompany is an absolute essential the way things stand, and risking all our eggs in the one basket makes no sense

I disagree. I thought last season the CBs were totally exposed by having poor quality/slow full backs and a dodgy keeper. A few goals we conceded last season were put down to central defending error when in a lot of cases a decent quick full back covering would have solved the problem. I think we have enough with Otamendi, Kompany, Stones and Kolarov in that position not to mention a significant upgrade in goalkeeper, obviously assuming we sign the full backs we have been heavily linked with (walker, mendy)
