The Boxing thread

Nope it wasn't a dream, this is actually happening.

Only good thing about this match-up will be the trash talk and Conor getting under the skin of solely boxing fans.

MMA fans know he hasn't got a chance in hell of beating Mayweather at boxing.

I wouldn't be too sure you know,

Floyd seems to struggle to find his range against southpaws, the fight against Zab Judah he was caught on the counter time after timer, Zab just didn't have the power to change the fight. Connor has more than enough power to knock anybody out, something we know Floyd doesn't have. Connor wont have any trouble getting in range so if Floyd isn't bang on his game there's a very good chance Connor will land which in turns means there's a very good chance he could knock him out. Connor has been hit a lot harder by a lot bigger guys than Floyd so I think he can unload knowing he's not going to be put away from one shot. If it comes to a technical fight then obviously Connor wont stand a chance.

Connor has no chance. None. It's ridiculous to think otherwise and I'm a huge MMA fan.

Connors piston left hook is nullified in Boxing by a simple block with the bigger glove.

It's as one sided as if Mayweather fought Connor in the UFC.

In boxing you dont have to worry about knees kicks or takedowns. You just have to worry about the other guys gloves, this gives you more freedom to dodge. The punches are weaker at slower speeds because of the gloves so you have to swing harder to ko. So you take longer thus easier to dodge. The gloves make defense much easier as you can guard more and the opponents gloves cant slip through your guard as easy. I wuld say these are the main differences between mma striking and boxing. Can anyone else add anything,

I would argue the opposite, boxer's hand speeds are much quicker and you can hit harder with the bigger gloves without fear of breaking the hand.

Defence is easier in boxing with the ability to block with the larger gloves. The distance is different too, boxers stand much closer and, without fear of catching a knee or foot to the face, head movement is used much more.

If it's purely boxing then McGregor has no chance, in fact he'd have no chance against any of the top 30 in boxing at his weight.

I think you have to wind up more tho to acheive that power or speed, this is my guess though. In relation to straight punches in mma they seem fast and able to do more damage.its important to highlight the differences though as they really do look very different when watching side by side.

He has so much more to his game that that mate,
Look at the check hook he put Aldo away with, the combo he put Alverez away with, the way he got in range to take Mendes out. In the second Diaz fight he ripped his face apart with boxing skills and Diaz trains with boxing world champions. it wouldn't matter what gloves they had on the outcome would have been the same.

im not for one second saying Connor should be favourite or anywhere near but to dismiss him is outrageous. He has everything to be a world class boxer, just not the experience. Speed, Power, Timing, Range, Head movement, angles. Connor excels at them all. He has a lot less to think about in this fight as well, he can forget about being kicked or taken down and just concentrate purely on striking which again Connor is unbelievable at.

He excels in MMA. Completely different in elite boxing. He's never even had sanctioned amateur boxing bouts.

It would be like taking a heptathlete/decathlete in their prime and pitting them in a 100m race against the worlds best at 100m.

It doesn't make them less of a supreme athlete but they would have no chance of winning in the individual sport.

Mate MacGregor will get schooled. He should have a warm up fight against a lesser opponent but he won't as he would probably get beat in that as well.

This is all about the Benjamin's.

Surely its not a real fight? No actual boxer could get close to Mayweather and Mcgregor won't even bother him. People saying he can unload on Mayweather are in cuckoo land, people have tried that for 15 years and no one came close really. As much as i dislike Mayweather he was a master in the ring and this is just a money making embarrassment for the sport.

not sure why some are getting aggy about - its a entertainment sport, two huge names going head to head, it will be interesting and entertaining and shocks do happen.

I think the highlight will probably be Mcgregor swearing in the press conference. Can't see the actual fight being anything other than a lesson. Thats unless Mcgregor decides to kick him and knee him in the head which wouldnt suprise me.

Yes that's what i want to happen.

It genuinely wouldnt suprise me. Mcgregors ego wont be able to handle getting a lesson in boxing from Floyd. Also for the money, they need a WWE style event that will leave people shocked and not bored at the predictable outcome.

In the contract it says that if he does anything like that, he wont be making much money so i would not get your hopes up for a spinning back kick to the head

He's been a World Champion and probably be again, McGregor has never boxed

My point was there are lots of unknowns - Mayweather is over 40 and has not done a great deal over recent years. He fought an equally old and declining MPacio, not much else. McGregor is in his prime, never boxed but has had plenty of time to get ready for this.

Anyway lets talk about a proper fight, Ward Kovalev 2.

Ward on points again, this time a little bit wider.

Head says Ward who will come in ultra cautious. Ward on the cards.

Heart says Kovalev is going to come in like a monster and leave nothing to chance. Kovalev on the cards after couple of knockdowns. And a trilogy fight

It will be silly to watch but I will watch it
Will break all records
Can't remember an event more people wanted to see when one guy is a 1-8 favourite
