So for us really its his skills at LB that would be key not his extracurricular skills. And those LB skills are quite average.

Pretty much all fullbacks these days have 'stats' etc which mask the fact they are pretty average footballers & most are shit defenders.

Mendy, in the flesh, is a problem you have to deal with & quite worrying to play against. He is a trouser wobbler when there is a bit of space.

Non of our fullbacks so far have had that but he does.

Nobody we sign, is perfect & nobody we sign, is a definite success.

Mendy, is a big scary opponent. Many of the others aren't. That's probably why, rightly or wrongly, he will cost decent money.

Apologies, I'm told you were on Rodrigues.

But whoever we sign on either side, will cost too much, unfortunately (except Alves).

Have to be wary of Chelsea /Juve. The loser in the Alex Sandro transfer might go for Mendy which could bump the Mendy fee upwards
 
Photos of Mendy on a pilgrimage to Medina are floating around on Twitter.
I guess that he'll be leaving in the next day or two. Hopefully we can get him signed quickly, because I don't see any good alternatives (in addition to Bertrand).

BTW, I'm not taking a shot a Spanish Dave, I know his contributions are bigger than what's on the stat sheet. We bottled a lot of chances that should've been assists for Silva and KDB. And if you've seen enough of Mendy's crossing then you know he should've had a few more assists as well.

Crossed wires. I was talking about Rodriquez who went for 15 million. He (Rodriquez) is rated highly. I however don't rate him. :)

I referenced Rodriquez's price as a price point for well rated LBs. I then said even though he is highly thought of I don't rate him. @lasereyes then asked why I didnt rate him. The post you both responded to was about Rodriquez.

There are LBs whom are as good as Mendy if not better but our scouts are not helping us.

I am sure @Dax777 can define better altenatives with more reasonable price out there.

Not a slight on Dax, but pretty sure our scouts and DOF and manager will be slightly better qualified to identify our targets.

Mendy is big fast strong and puts a good cross in, finding like for like would be very hard and we might get him yet, but we were linked with Gaya and Grimaldo who both have their own abilities,
And two more that no one will thank me for. Shaw never liked him but utd fans assure me he is good, he is not much cop under Maureen Then there is Dalbert who wants champ league to get into his national side
