Politically he is an idiot - he has limited appeal within the Tory party never mind beyond - outside he is thought of as a bit of a laugh, a posh boy and inept - not PM material. Were he to get to the top job the first two questions that will stop him in his tracks are

1/ when exactly did you become convinced Brexit was the way forward given your utterances to the contrary right up to the moment

2/ will you guarantee the £350m extra to the NHS once Britain leaves the EU as you said would happen

Dont kid yourself by your own perspective. Time will tell. I remain convinced he is the man to lead this country forward.

1) when he thought long and hard
2) we will save money which can go on any variety of issues. It was saying it could be spent on the NHS. He should just say go on then I will do and cut unemployment benefit to pay for it - that would shut all you bus sign obsessives up.

Yes they would.

Certain sections of the right are utterly blind when it comes to Johnson, they love his jovial demeanour and think he can relate to your average man and woman in the street. What they don't realise is that it doesn't take very much before he is exposed as the oafish lout he really is.

He was an appalling Mayor of London. Oh, he can sometimes con his way in to office but unfortunately for Boris four things condemn him, despite his education he's not very bright, he's a compulsive liar, he's needlessly offensive and above all else he's lazy.

Not my Mayor - I live in North Yorkshire - his jurisdiction ends way south of me and most others on this board I bet. Given Boris did 8 years and Khan just abut 1 so far I would reserve judgement

Meanwhile in the real world, if the Tories (MPs and the party apparatchiks) thought Boris would make a good PM, he'd be PM.

Could we have a separate Tory leadership thread that most of us could then ignore?

Good point. Watched Theresa versus Boris on BBC last night and was struck by how poorly Johnson had ranked amongst his peers. Think we'll be having a separate thread soon.
 
I will briefly question the critique of Khan vs Johnson with this; how many MAJOR incidents did Johnson face within his tenure compared to Khan's year in office??

I think it's been a stupid comparison and, clearly, Khan is within a maelstrom of serious activity in London that Johnson will never be matched on.
