pep said yesterday that manchester city have signed a youth fullback from barca Eric Garcia age 16 so maybe he knows what is happening and getting somebody to work on over the next couple of years will mean the to big names signing that he has targeted are in place and now working on the youth side of things

He's a centreback, and 16. Definitely not a first team fullback option.

Pep also said he'd never seen him play, so safe to assume academy signings are a different department.

Agreed Levy has a strong hand as do we...good chess match going on. If obviously like him in before the US tour but not at the expense of giving Levy ridiculous amounts!

Levy will be thinking of the huge amounts you paid for Stones, Sterling, Mangala etc and try to squeeze every penny he can out of your lot, who could blame him? When he sees the likes of Pickford and Keane going for over 30m he will be still trying to aim for that 45m mark, if not with addons. I think Ponch wants him out more than Levy, but if any Manchester club comes calling you have to raise the price a little more

Exactly.

But City and Tottenham have not been able to agree a fee for Walker, with Spurs demanding close to £50million for the player. One source close to the negotiations told The Independent last night that the two sides are still “sparring” over the fee and that no agreement is expected any time soon.

Should just move on now. If it's a quota issue get a backup homegrown keeper.

It's not just about hitting a homegrown number for the sake of it. It's about getting quality in the position using a homegrown player to allow us to maximise the 17 foreign players in the squad - of which we've targeted other players.

Getting a backup homegrown keeper does nothing for us, unless you're able to dump/sell Bravo - which would cost us just as much in the P&L (selling Bravo at a loss + buying a new English keeper capable of filling in) as paying the extra funds for Walker. Otherwise, it still leaves us with a gap at right back that if we buy with a foreign signing means someone else in the 17 misses out.

Hart costs us nothing. And after bravos great international performances and his high reputation in Europe I can't imagine we will lose more then 5 odd mil. I wouldn't bother signing a big name rb this season if alves signs I can't see much better out there would sign a younger player to replace and compete with alves in the future. I'm a big fan of walker btw just can't see how we can keep them both happy.

It's not only keeping them both happy but there needs to come a time we stop allowing clubs to rinse us which while all the evidence is we will pay they will continue to overcharge

What is plan B if Levy demands £60m for Walker?

Is this deal goes up to £50 million I would happily walk away and not lose any sleep so much better and cheaper options just paying a premium because he's english

I get the feeling we already know what Levy wants for Walker and are just hoping to knock him down...the only reason we still in this deal is because we know in the end, we'll pay it anway...would not surprise me if it ends up being 50mil after add-ons and I got no issue with this. Best English RB in the league and fills a long term big need for us. Txiki (the club) do business in the same way every summer..Sterling, Stones, Kev....we play hardball for months but dont walk away from our target because in the end we know and the selling club know, we'll pay the asking price.

Not gonna happen. (The walking away bit). This is definitely going to take a bit longer than Mendy/Alves/Bertrand but don't think anyone in Pep's team is sweating it. They want Walker and they know they'll get him.

Yep.

City will get him because, unlike their other top players, Spurs are happy to sell him. Poch had a big falling out with him towards the end of last season. But that won't stop Levy squeezing every ounce of value out of the deal. He's not sweating it any more than Pep is. So this could well be one that will drag on until the end of the window.

Won't go that far tbh. If I was a betting man, by 1st August he's a City player. Once everyone's properly back for preseason it'll get done.

I appreciate what you're saying about Levy but it does make me bristle a little the way he's characterised. If you're a selling club, which they are, then the buying club know that. It's also common knowledge that there's been a cooling of the relationship between Poch & Walker. Bottom line is that they know they're not gonna keep him. The haggle will continue because City are as comfortable with doing it as Levy is. Eventually they'll find some middle ground.

Bare in mind that you can forget all the nonsense about "Levy wants 50 million but City only wanna pay 45 million". IMO by this stage of the deal they're haggling over how many instalments to pay in, when the add ons kick in, what kind of add ons they're gonna get. That kinda detail.

Its taking a player who ticks all of our boxes from a rival given the rags are stumping up the best part of 90m for a striker 50m for an english right back doesnt seem that bad well not to me. We might knock them down by a few quid but in the end we will pay. Thankfully not my money.
