He probably is similar in pace and strength to Otamendi and from what I've seen i think he jumps just as high as Otamendi or maybe even higher.
After watching Otamendi get bullied by Costa and embarrassed by several pacy forwards last year, that doesn't fill me with confidence.

Just watched an obligatory YouTube video of the bloke.. gotta say, as great as his tackles are I could see him getting a lot of reds through sliding in in the PL!

Otamendi is only an inch taller. If we get Martinez I think he will play along side Kompany more than the other CBs, as his style isn't suited to physical play.Can't confess I've seen anything of him. Only worry is his height. 5'11 which isn't exactly big for a CB and the likes of Costa, Lukaku, Benteke could all punish us.
I'm.not worried about his height. My 2 favorite prospects for 4th CB are Martinez and Chiriches. Neither are particularly tall. But both would be fantastic fits. Inigo more so coz he is a lefty. But Chiriches is my favorite none superstar CB. I think he is grossly underrated.Can't confess I've seen anything of him. Little late on this but from the little I know this would be a decent, if uninspiring, signing. I'm pretty sure he can play left back as well as CB so he helps plug the gap behind Mendy. He is small so in the PL so that's a key concern. If Mangala is going we need an extra CB especially if we're going to play more 3 at the back. Martinez looks like he is that guy. The fact that he is capable of playing left back (if I remember correctly) as well makes him much more valuable to me.

I'd agree with that Spanish teams seem to want to play in in defeat, here it's win at all costs because of huge amounts of money. Could be why your national team is so poor but that's an argument for another thread.

Im not sure about this guy. I mean he looks ok but 30 M its not cheap for a 4th CB at all. I'd rather spent 20M more for a WC CB like Laporte, VVD, Boateng, Alderweireld..

For sure, most Spanish teams focus on playing football, watched a few of Eibars games last season and it was great to watch a little team like that with like 6000 fans playing great football and winning. They've got little time for big clobbers over there. Here we need at least one or two but also make sure they can play as well.
