Centre back options

As far as I'm concerned both M'Bappe and Sanchez are Rodeo Drive shopping indulgences. This is the big one of the summer. It's really too tight not to get someone, if we seriously want to be challenging for both PL and CL. Given what we paid for both Mendy and Walker, £60 mill doesn't look that outrageous to me. A good centre half is worth his weight in gold. What would Terry at his height, or indeed the Vinnie of 2011-12 have been worth, at current market values?
It's interesting that Pep seems to want to get a second look at Mangala. I don't believe he'll ever have the footballing skills, but I would truly love him to prove me wrong.
 
So Martinez to Barca and Badstuber to Stuttgart. Doesn't seem like there are a lot of options. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens for sure. Stones, Kompany and Otamendi leave us lacking depth.

In fairness he had a couple of short outings there under Pellegrini and he looked more assured than Mangala, Otamendi & Demichellis.
But I agree, 35 minutes total probably isn't enough time to judge..
 
I can't imagine yaya will play CB at any stage this season. Don't think he has ever regularly played there before and I can't recall him looking like he enjoys the defensive side to the game. He would be a long way down the list.
 
I'm all for keeping Mangala. After that debut at Chelsea we all thought he was the defensive partner Kompany needed. Obviously didn't kick on from there, but a year away in La Liga seems to have been good for him and if Pep can bring out his playing ability then he is more than ideal to replace Kolarov.

He has been poor in preseason. Does not have the tools to play for Pep
Absolutely woeful on the ball. Terrible passer, even some of his successful passes are misplaced ones which just happen to reach a City player.

I can't believe we spent so much on him. I hope whoever scouted him is long gone

And plays like it! Tosin will be our #4. He can do the job if the Boss thinks Mangala needs to go. He needs to strengthen his physique and his game, but he is very young, and that will come. In a couple of years, with game time and strength conditioning under his belt, he could develop into beinganother VK type player...silky, strong, unflappable.
