Jonny Evans

Leicester and Chelsea have both won the league at a canter without a world class centre back.

both teams set up defensively...we dont.....we need defenders all who can defend one on one...evans is shit at this...plus id rather have david luiz or even robert huth or an aging john terry there than evans....the guy is rubbish

Guardiola thinks he's good enough to be our fourth choice CB, and after reading similar opinions on how Danilo was shite, Ederson wasn't worht it because he'd only played in portugal and Walker was just an athlete who no one would pay above 25m for, I'm pretty happy to give him his pick of targets.

He's not earning plaudits for playing for United, he's getting recognition for being at fucking West Brom, the most unfashionable, least fawned-on-by-the-media club in the country with the exception of possibly Stoke.

Guardiola isn't looking at him and thinking, "I seem to recall Samuel Luckhurst saying he'd be the new Beckenbauer 6 years ago, I'll buy him!" is he?

WBA play a defensive game where they seldom attack and tend to have 5 defensive players so most players would be ok in that position...how would he cope if everyone is bombing forward leaving him against somebody with pace ....we play football and build up from the back. Evans has the control of a rapist.... seriously he shouldn't be on our radar.
As for people saying if pep thinks he's good enough then that fine by me...bollocks to that...we all have our own opinions and mine is we should avoid this rag twat like the plague.
Wouldn't want him if he wasn't an ex rag btw...don't think he's anywhere near the quality we need if we seriously want to compete with Real, Barca, Bayern etc....be honest can you see PSG wanting him lol....no fucking chance.
As I say it's my opinion that it would be a huge waste of money to buy him...but each to their own eh.

Sorry to break it to you lads but this is definitely on, he's in Manchester today and could be signed before Everton from what I've heard.

It's hardly selling our best player kind of tragedy. We want and experienced, left footed, home grown centre back. The only issue people have with Evans is his former club, if he had been a Chelsea or Newcastle player before WBA no one would bat an eyelid.

Can you see us wanting nacho, from madrid? He is their 4th choice. Barca and PSG dont even have one.

Think Otamendi has improved and is decent and Stones just need to cut the lacks of concentration out. In a ideal world Otamendi would have gone for what 20m? then we'd have brought in Bertrand and a VVD kinda signing..but suppose we gotta stick with what we have for now.

stones also needs to learn how not to be bullied by stronger forwards, be more dominant in the air and also how to defend one on one...then he will be what we need.....we have fucked around looking for a second decent centre half for years and are still nowhere close and now they come up with Evans....someone should lose their job for that

yup stones doesnt cut it for me either ( and neither does ottomendi) but that is no excuse to go and buy such dross as evans

Tbh, Stones looks like he's starting to get it. I'm quite optimistic about him after pre season. He a VK made a couple of errors, but Otamendi made 3 times as many & got away with several more, due to sitting down, waving his arms & getting a free kick.

I imagine Pep feels (probably correctly) that Evans wouldn't have made the same number, because his judgement & game intelligence is better, thus avoiding the situation in the first place, so it's swings & roundabouts. Otta has more ability but is stupid, Evans less but smarter & possibly a good communicator, which Otamendi is terrible at.

Knew the Alves situation would fck us over, best laid plans and all that.

Could have had Komps/Stones/Kolarov + New CB with Bertrand/Mendy and Alves/Walker...

Is it peps way of saying to the powers that be that we need to spend big on a centre half?

You might be overthinking this one.

Terry or Huth? Be serious. The fact is he's played an entire career in the Premier League but he is 29 not mid 30s, and most football fans would regard him as a decent if unspectacular defender.

We've got Stones and Kompany. You decide to either replace Stones, or provide back up. We've gone down he back-up route. That's sensible imo.

Stones wobbled last season when Kompany was out. I think he can improve. I would not like to discard him yet. That is what those who want VVD are advocating

Evans would be a crap signing in my opinion but it's peps head on the block not mine.

Much rather buy for the longer term than some has been.
Pep will be a genius if he turns out to be the missing link..but I can't see it myself
