I don't expect us to be bidding for him either, just trying to distract myself from the very real possibility that we are signing Jonny Evans.

How old was Rooney when he was past his prime? Age affects them all differently and, in my opinion, Pique's performances have dropped off over the last couple of years to the point of him being a fairly consistent liability. I'm sure he's still a much superior player to Evans but just not worth the hassle.

West Brom play a deep defensive line with more often than not 4 defenders back whereas we play a high line with the full backs/wing backs bombing on. That leaves our CBs exposed to fast counter attacks so if Kompany gets a knock we're left with Stones plus either Evans or Otamendi, would you fancy that against a counter attack led by Mane and Salah if Komps picks up an injury before Sept 9th? One decently weighted ball over the top and they're effectively out of the game. We saw the worst consequences of that against Chelsea at the Etihad last season.
