Everton - Post match thread.

Agreed. Two games in, and so, last year. A midget team like us, will not win this league. What's Edin Dzeko up to these days?
If it was same as last year, we would have won...and then won the next three or four!

However, the winning away and drawing at home feels somewhat familiar!

It took 3 years to completely dismantle the best team & strongest squad in the league, so I fail to understand why it will take less than 12 months to repair the damage & reverse the regression even if we have spent £350m.

FFP was extremely damaging for us & meant we had to mend & make do with a rapidly ageing squad. What Guardiola has done is to correct these glaring deficiencies within our squad & the lack of a left wing back last night proved we still have a lot more squad building to do, but there's still another consideration many seem to forget...... Our competitors.

Whilst we stalled because of FFP restrictions & regressed because of the previous managerial incumbent, our competitors caught us up & in some cases they surpassed us. Since Pep has been here, he has halted our decline & started the process of reversing the damage caused.

HOWEVER, as we have tried to do all of this, have our competitors just stood still waiting for us to catch up? Hell no. They've also been busy changing managers, spending vast sums on their squads & increasing stadium capacities etc, to maintain the advantage they gained during our stasis.

So whilst we have narrowed the gap, we still have a way to go, not least because of the huge shift in playing staff & philosophy. Kompany said in pre-season that Pep's influence only became really clear when the on loan players returned & were clueless as to what was needed from Pep.

Apparently only Nasri adapted quickly and the rest struggled. Kompany said this solidified the belief in the squad that we were heading in the right direction & progressing at a rate of knotts. BUT having said all this, have ManUre, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs just left us to get on with our transformation unchallenged?

The huge changes this summer should finally prove the damage that has been done to our club, and it should also show the size of the task facing our new manager who is also having to adapt to the toughest league in the world.

Pep has a plan & that is clear to see, & as such he deserves time to affect his plan & should be afforded time from us. This is why for last season & this, all I want to see is a reversal of our decline & the advancement of our progress. This is why I believe we won't see the green shoots of recovery until next season & I believe it won't be until the season after, before we start to challenge in the Champions League. We just have to be realistic here. It may not be what many fans want to hear, but unfortunately it's the reality if our situation...
Dribble,

Not drivel! Well stated, sir.

However, we are not going to be given the time or thoughtfulness in your post by anyone outside the club. Here's hoping the owner and management have the fortitude to see and understand that we are halfway through a process and we are building a club for 2020 and beyond.

Any exhortations from the lazy journalists will only be made more vehement should United win anything of substance this season and Pep fail to do so. Such is the reality of the 24/7 media hunger for clicks...and the revenue they generate.

I remember when clicks only generated a jouro's opinion all of which was based on nothing of substance.

Somehow someone decided advertising online was good for the masses (LOL).

As for Mou he has always been given the green light to win a title in his second year in charge only to fall out with management a year later and it wouldn't surprise me if it went the same way with Manure and take all the credit for the upside and none of the blame for the downside.

We still clearly need a striker who can be more clinical that Kun is now for while he has been a stalwart he has lost pace and the ability to put away those important chances that mean we don't drop points against the likes of Everton at home which over the course of the season mean we finish short.

A defensive midfielder who controls the forward movement is essential as well as is a CB.

ideally these three positions which would sure up our chances of success this year would come in before August 31 and another full back maybe in the Jan window is the priority but we might fall short in that regard.

Everton organised themselves well to restrict our clear cut chances to a few but again we should have won this game and unfortunately their maybe too many similar sides this season to make it too hard a job for us to get the three points given the situation with the squad now unless we get those 4 players all of whom would be starting eleven players with support from the likes of Ferny and Yaya whose best days are behind then now.

I'm not so sure this time. He has hands off owners and has already changed the culture back to something equating to Fergie's legacy. Plus, where does he go from here? He has his dream job and I think he will do what he needs to to not fuck it up...unless it starts to go pear shaped, but I doubt that!

Don't write him off. Jesus has not lit up either game this season, too! Sergio is working harder than at anytime since he arrived. More is being asked of him, and he is stepping up. One shot has changed everyone's view, and if that shot had gone in, life would look very different. I think he looks as hungry as he ever has, but (as someone else said) he is being coached to death and may not be operating 100% off instinct. I think he has goals galore in him, he just needs to take a few chances and the half chances will start looking like chances, and then he starts making something out of nothing. These things ebb and flow.

THIS ^^^^^^ We need THIS ASAP, and it needs to be the next big money purchase, because he has to be world class. First, though, we have to find a player with the qualities of both Yaya and Fernandinho, with a bit of Patrick Vieira thrown in for good measure! Find HIM and Pep's Project is virtually complete.

as well as is a CB.

Maybe. For me, Tosin is ready to be #4, especially considering the flexibility with which we play, and the ability of others to step in. I'm not for spending another £30-50M on a makeweight cover player.

Nice post, though, I enjoyed the thought that went into it.

Cheers CB I enjoyed your reply it is well thought out and its always opinion but you raise valid points and yes I still believe Kun has a lot in him but again I believe the Nacho replacement needs to be a player who can stand on his own that all our rivals have and give Kun and Jesus who is still only a teenager and has a long way to go in fairness to him to be carrying the line for a side with ambitions to win major titles at home and in Europe.

I agree I am not in favour of a player like Evans to come in either as that is what it will cost us.

VK's replacement needs to come from within the academy IMO as a sign that the grass roots development is reaping dividends but of course we hope that VK can play at the standard required for a season or two injury free , here's hoping anyway.

If we do buy a CF, I hope it is a different kind of player to what we have...a big lad, with a header in him. I hear Andy Carroll might be available! [That should start some "discussion"! ;) ]

Agreed but not the one you mention.

Harry Kane would be a good one to target next given he is home grown as fits the age profile.

76 points will not win the Premier League.
It won't but somebody once said you'll win the league by winning all your home games and drawing the away games so it must be true.
It's bollocks now of course but was occasionally true in the days of two points for a win.

Well played for separating it into two paragraphs. We'll done.

Next week we'll work on full stops, and maybe by Christmas we might even try you on commas. It's a journey, but you.can get there with practice.

thank you

being dyslexic is not funny and spelling comes first and thanks to google the learning is coming

Didn't we have the best away form in the league last year? I believe we did.

Makes sense, because clearly we can play off the park any team that wants to have a go at us. Whereas at home, our opponents invariably park the bus and we often find it difficult to break them down.

So all we need to do is to continue our excellent away form (and I don't see why we cannot), and at the same time, come up with a way of breaking down well organised defences at home. I don't think that should be beyond the wit of man, given our expertise and resources. We are already dominating pretty much every game we play; we just need to turn more of these disappointing draws into wins and we'll be fine.

Reflecting once again and there are positives in our performance:

After being a man down and losing 1-0, we dominated the game, tied it and should of probably got the win as well. We could of just as easily put our heads down and conceded another goal.

We need to finish our chances but the way we dominate games the goals will come. Take away the Sane mistake and Red card and we would of eventually found the net and won the game. I am even more confident about this season because we have game changers sitting on the bench. So at 0-0 and us dominating the game, in the 65th we can bring on Bernardo and Sterling for example and they will terrorize defenders and more often than not win us the game in those tight matches.

Sane's mistake is inexcusable. Giving the ball away so close to our own net should never happen and we must avoid this at all costs.

Defenders can't give the ball away in dangerous positions. Last season Clichy did it, Kolarov did it, Otamendi did it, Stones did it, Sagna did it. It often leads to easy goal scoring opportunities. The defense is its own worst enemy. Cut out these simple mistakes and we will be much much better.

Having watched the highlights has anyone noticed the push on Sane which caused him to be off balance when he gave the ball away. I thought it to be the case on the night but the highlights confirm it. Another shit decision by the ref

One thing I have noticed is that City players seem to be booked for first foul there is rarely a warning like other players from other clubs receive.

Its literally two challenges and they're off.

GazBaz got booked after two minutes when he was at EFC. My ERO suggested the same thing for EFC players - first tackle, a booking. It is cheating in its clearest form. People go on and on about lack of consistency in the way the Whistling Wankers go about their business but MCFC seem to be given no leeway, no second chances nor final warnings - the first booking is the warning! There is a reluctance on the part of some referees to issue a second yellow, and just consider the cards that MadMan doled out on Monday. The very example of inconsistency, not particularly in our game, but you just know that if he's next up at The Swamp there will be a marked leniency when it comes to the likes of Foullaini, Matic, Rojo, and Poogba! it's stark staringly and blatantly obvious.

I walk up Joe Mercer Way every match these days thinking "Whose turn will it be today to gift a goal, after the midfield and the strikers have spent half an hour running off their bollocks trying to get through, round or over a packed defence?"

We do have the mental strength to take these 'moments' and continue, it's just the lapses of concentration that within a twinkle see us concede. Game after game last season, my general thought was that at 0-0 we're gonna let in a soft 'un!

There was a slight touch but he should have been in control of the ball and could have put it out of play.
