New Kompany Calf Injury?

It's all about how we set up, I watched us with Mangala and Ota in the champions league Semi and they looked solid. Play them in the system we do most of the time and they look vulnerable, like any defender would the way we play.

You can tell improve what you don't have.... if pep is to prove his worth he'll coach the striker/attackers to up there game. I had this same debate last season, can't recall the stat but the actual goals conceded that impacted Pts were ridiculous. I also stated that the stat you're alluding to would improve as a great deal was due to transition and improvement in Jesus, sane et al...

Put it this way, did we mess up not signing another CB?
No doubt we messed up not signing another centre back although a defensive midfielder might have done us just as well. Still think that, if we can score 100 goals, we will win the title regardless.

Typical City , we are due a dodgy pen or a Liverpool Red card tho , right after hell freezes over .

Look at last year. Most Stone wall penalty of the year denied by that Wanker Oliver then he goes ad gives them a soft one. Only to be expected I guess and more of the same again tomorrow.

I don't think many people would agree that Kompany isn't far and away our best defender, in fact some will say he is still the leagues best defender(who else stands out as much as Kompany has? Koscielny, Alderweireld?) when fit and sharp but I don't agree with anyone saying "that's it seasons over because we didn't get Evans"(bit of a drop off in quality there don't you think?).

Even if he's out for a month or two, the season isn't over, we aren't back to where we were last season... why? Because it wasn't just down to missing Kompany alone, yes he organises and martials our backline better than anyone but that wasn't the reason we looked so easy to unsettle and to cut through on the break last season.

We had a keeper who didn't instil any confidence in his defence because he struggled badly with his own from the start he had, that can de-stabilize a defence on it's own. It lead to indecisiveness and rash decisions, Ederson looks to be made of the right stuff and have all the right attributes, they are already looking more settled with him between the posts for me(and those long balls he plays too...). Then it goes without saying we needed new side-backs, we have brought in real quality with pace to burn and strength to go with it, opposing players heads will drop(which will then hopefully have a knock-on mental effect on other teams) when they start losing race after race trying to get past Walker and Mendy and I don't see them being out muscled too often either. Those are two big factors neither Stones and Otamendi have to worry about this season, they have also had a year together, we may start to see them looking a lot more solid to the point where it's no longer an issue.

As for cover I hope to see Tosin play some minutes this season, if we don't show we have confidence in him then it's less likely he will become confident at this level(I don't think he needs to go to the championship on loan personally it's just not the same). Mangala could also be useful against the right opposition, he's not our best passer or the most two footed but he's shown since coming back that he can be quite adequate and who knows could improve with more game time?

Against the very best though(CL level) we need Vinny, even that might not be enough but you play your strongest hand against the very best.

Why the feck was he playing against Gibraltar anyway ?

Beats me to be honest, they could've easily managed without a defence.
I don't see how Martinez can justify playing him for such a 'meaningless' game, let alone keeping him on for the full 90', especially given the result, his injury record and the available alternatives.
Martinez is a bit of a bell-end though, so that might explain.

No harm to anyone, but we knew this could happen, yet waited till the final day of the transfer window to try and do something about ii and ended up missing out, seems we where so engrossed in fawning over Sanchez and mbappe that we find ourselves in this situation it's almost laughable..still think we will draw the game tomorrow..

So, you are saying City did not try to bring in another quality defender all preseason? And you know this HOW?

Just because Evans popped up on the radar at the last minute, do you honestly think they weren't scouring the globe for alternatives? Maybe the issue was finding someone worth spending the money on, who Pep et al thought was better than what we had? Maybe it was a homegrown issue? Visa? Wages? Other clubs taking the piss with an inflated transfer fee? One thing is certain,no one here knows!

At least you didn't shout at me lol
Never shouting, only EMPHASIS! ;-)

Rainy and miserable here in Chicago, so I should have the right gear with me for the flight to Manc in a few hours!!! Apparently, it is going to be a very wet weekend there, thunderstorms and all! Arrive Sat am, leave Mon am! City (and Vinny!) are going to be the death of me! By Weds, hopefully my body should have figured out where it is! I hope so, as I have to fly again! I should have known thunderstorms and 97F in Las Vegas yesterday was a bad weather sign!!! Summer's transition to Autumn is always a doozy! Just glad I'm not supposed to be in FL this weekend! :-{

Come on, City!!

Good to see the X Files are alive & well mate! :-)
It's not exactly tin hat stuff to recognise that the doctor was sacked after a successful season with few injuries and a doctor from the managers home country brought in and the injuries shot up.

Yip no one really knows, but the need for another CB should have been a priority regardless of price and we see ourselves in this situation due to not adressing it full stop,I don't go for the visa, wages or homegrown crap the players are out there,it's simple we most likely took our eye off the ball concentrating on other areas, never mind let's just see what happens tomorrow before spouting any more ..

If City were willing to spend silly money on Mbappe, then they could have ditched their interest and solved the CB problem with quality and yet for a lot less than Mbappe's supposed valuation.

Seems a bit harsh, for all we know he might be back in the team next weekend although admittedly I wouldn't bet on it. I'm not sure what you mean by "find a role" and whether you mean a purely coaching role? Personally, I think the issue is how reliant we are on him. If the drop off in ability and leadership to the other CBs wasn't so huge then it would be fine. He would be one of the four, he'd get games when he's fit and when he's not, it wouldn't feel like the crushing blow that it currently is. But tbh, looking at our record when it comes to buying central defenders in recent years, I don't think getting rid would have been the answer. He's the best CB we have by a mile and we need to appreciate the matches he plays for us rather than thinking he is holding us back by being in the squad IMO.
Time to move on he is not coming back long term we all know it including Vinny.

We need to find a capable long term replacement.
