Chelsea(A) - Post Match Thread

On second thought Maybe not just Pep's face alone says all but also Conte's face screamed 'bitch slapped'.

What an immensely satisfying win that is, feels like a big payback for last season. Shame we couldn't bag a few more goals but it was a huge effort by the players, the pressing could not have been better and the recovery of the ball was outstanding. Chelsea were made to look like a U-18 side.
Obviously KDB was brilliant again but Ederson impressed me again today, he is so confident coming off his line and plays with real authority. Delph as well put in another extremely solid performance to soften the blow of Mendy's injury.
Overall that was as good a 90 mins as City have played under Guardiola, to go away to the champions and play them off the pitch is a big statement and in a manner that was a perfect demonstration of Pep's style, you could see how happy he was in the post-match interview. More of the same please!

To be fair Ferna was warned before he was booked, even so I thought he got the ball. Ottamendi's was a yellow all day long. Mind you Alonzo should have booked for pulling Sterling down.

That was a sensational, complete performance. We have gone to the home of the champions and dominated them for 90 mins. For me, one of the best performances I have seen from a City side, in over 30 years of watching us.

Ederson - The real deal. Looks so confident in everything he does.
Centre backs - So solid, didn't give them a sniff.
Full backs - Are everything we missed last season. Walker is class and this Delph fella is looking more than good enough to cover the Lb position. Fingers crossed he can stay fit.
Midfield - I am delighted to say that Fern is proving me wrong at the moment. I been critical of him for 12 months but he looks rejuvenated. Silva and KDB are different class, they are the 2 best CMs in the league, it is that simple.
Wingers - I felt Sane was a little subdued today, the first 4 or 5 touches he had weren't great and it seemed to affect him. Sterling was excellent, particularly in the 1st half, apart from that final ball.
Jesus - worked his balls off, against 3 CBs he was on a hiding to nothing but he created the goal and almost scored a sensational volley. Not only that he "defended" brilliantly, the pressure he put not their keeper and defence was a major factor in our dominance.

More of that please lads.

Conte looks well depressed. Tell you what though, think he might have realised that even for all his shouting and trying to change setup during the game, he couldnt find an answer !
Give him credit for trying.....he's a good manager.

The Spurs game is the next hoodoo we need to break... would love to see us put them in their place.

Watched Darn Sarf in a pub full of Chelski, strange looks when I nearly hit the ceiling when KDB scored, big cheer at the end then a quick exit! I think that is the best performance since the 1-0 win over the rags when Vinny scored, for once I agree with Wio, "TOTAL DOMINATION"

That was what I was hoping for. A huge huge win sending a clear message to direct rivals. But mark my words: We're not even close fulfilling our potential yet. A day will come where you'll see players unable to even walk out of physical fatigue, still finding a teammate blind, not wasting a pass. That would be one of the indicators...

The goal killed them, eventually they started accepting the inevitable. A rare situation to witness, especially for a mentally strong side such as Chelsea is, playing at home! Lost for words regarding the effort, the work-rate, the determination of City players. As for Kevin, his performance tonight cements his leadership status, I think. In games like this you need guts in order to perform. What a fucking player...

PS. As bizarre as it sounds, I still feel fucking angry about the points we were robbed vs Everton. City deserved to be clearly ahead with 21 fucking points tonight...
PS2. Conte started building his alibi from Wednesday night, 1 day less rest for his team ("don't forget...") and all that shit. I don't remember him highlighting that factor last season when his team (and Liverpool) had the luxury of playing 1 match per week. Which presented a clear advantage for Chelsea. On the other hand, he clearly knows that City's game under Guardiola is much much more demanding in terms of stamina. His team was defending throughout the 90' minutes tonight. A conscious decision of his, an approach he took taking into account tactical as well as fitness aspects. He could have fielded fresher players in Pedro and Willian, for example, it was his choice not to. Not to mention, he was playing against Sane and Stones (4th match in 10 days), and most of the others playing their 3rd game in 7 days. There is no excuse for Antonio and deep down he knows it...
Great post mate
