Wow £75 mill, for Liverpool’s sake hope he rediscovers his form from last season and before as since his injury he hasn’t looked right at all, although in part that could be down to game time and not wanting to be at Southampton,oh and just to add can’t wait for the media outrage at the obscene amount spent on a player,or is that simply meant for us..

I don't know why we wouldn't be what with the incredible way we're playing. Why on earth would you say no to by far and away the worlds greatest coach?

Who knows, I won't pretend to know why he made his decision. I agree Pep is a huge draw. I just think expecting every player to sign for us is what everyone hated about the other big clubs 10 years ago.

It's not a "didn't want him anyway" but £75m is insane and the Dippers are welcome to him. No way is he worth £20m more than the best player in the league KDB and arguably no defender should command that price tag.

For a third choice CB, I'm happy looking elsewhere and sticking a hard limit of £50m. For the money, Martinez is a great choice.

It’s a lot of money, but fair play to them for finally landing their main target. It’ll be interesting to see who we go for now.

Any news Ric, surely not JFE, do we go with what we have (best defence in the league) and wait until the summer...

Because Pep is playing a no risks game.

At Bayern he had probably the best XI in the world. Probably the best 14 or 15 in the world. But when the injuries came at the business end of the season, he didn't have the depth to finish off the major competitions and he got knocked out of the CL because of it.

Here he doesn't want 14 or 15 players, he wants 17 or 18. He wants 3 or 4 starting quality CB's, 4 starting quality fullbacks, attacking midfielders, etc. etc.

That's why he wanted VVD and that's why he wants Sanchez despite us having the best attack in Europe.

I am not saying that he would not be a decent addition just that at £75M its a ridiculas fee for a third choice CB. He is no better than our existing first choice ones and has yet to be judged in a good back 4.

£75m for an injury prone defender? Football has gone mad. No wonder City weren't interested in going any higher than £60m. Good cheaper alternatives if you ask me: Harry Maguire and Inigo Martinez are two that spring to mind.

75 million is ridiculous. He isn't even that good, most overrated centre back in the world. Southampton fans are loving it and say that Hoedt is better than Van Dijk. Netherlands fans say that Van Dijk is an accident waiting to happen. Despite all the hype, I can see him really struggling at Liverpool because he has concentration issues

He looks anything but bang average to me and Liverpool recently when they have spent big have got decent players. (Firminho, Mane, Salah ) Still it's a hell of a lot of money.
Big and cart horseish for me, looks good in a shit defence, so should be ideal for Liverpool.

Nah; Johnny Evans.

Sorry; Johnny Fucking Evans.

People said the same thing about us and Walker (including Blue Mooners),so maybe it aint as insane as people say,if he lasts a say 4-5 years for them.
I personally agree with you,I to don`t see him being a £75M player but who knows,as Jimmy Greaves always said "its a fanny ol` game".

True I suppose. We were willing to offer £60m for him apparently, still way too much imo.

Give me Stones and Otamendi any day.

£75m is way to much, decent player but needs to improve a lot to be worth that. I don't believe Klopp will make him any better as he doesn't seem that with players.
He'll probably perform at the standard he was at a couple of season ago when all the interest started.
Pep would have made him a better player, look what he's done with several of our players in just over a year.

Fair play to them. If they sign a top keeper, left back and defensive midfielder they'll be close contenders to winning the league next season.

Didn't Liverpool think they were getting a world class CB from Southampton in Lovren a couple of years ago.

I'd love to see him here but fair game to Pool for actually pulling it off. I don't think we'd pay 75 by any means. Well off the next targets then, Milan Skriniar please.
