Centre back options

Maguire is bang average, no better than Mangala and certainly no better than Johnny Evans. Not that I want us to sign Evans, far from it.
Fingers crossed we sign someone better than both of them.
This is wrong. Maguire has very good potential.

If they perform outstandingly they will likely get a first team spot.

We shouldn’t necessarily think Stones and Otamendi is the first choice pairing.

Every position on the pitch should be up for grabs.

Every position should be up for grabs but Stones and Ota were looking a very formidable partnership and I doubt many CB's in world football are playing better than Ota at the moment or have the potential of John Stones. Mind you, I'm sure Vincent Kompany does not think JS and Nico are City's first choice pairing!

I disagree. I think he's an okay player now with the potential to be a good player, like Jonny Evans, maybe even a very good player, but probably non the gamble we need to take as his ceiling is not sky high and he's not much better than Mangala right now. Tarkowski for me is a far better player. Lewis Dunk also looks as good as Maguire for me, likewise his and Tarkowski's partners Ben Mee (City academy grad) and Zanka. I wouldn't be thrilled with any of them (although I'd take Tarkowski).

That's just my opinion though.

I've seen very little of the others. Maguire I've seen enough to say he'll succeed in a Pep team.

Taken from the Daily Mail reference Martinez......

"Stones will soon be back but City still want to strengthen defensively. They hold an interest in Real Sociedad captain Inigo Martinez and sporting director Txiki Begiristain is said to have been in San Sebastian this week."

Hopefully not, whenever I've seen Barca he's looked bloody awful. They have a crap defence bailed out by the amazing players in front of them, and the fact that apart from about 4 or 5 games a season no teams attack them or are given the chance to. No better than Mangala in my opinion. Rather stick with Ota and Stones.

He is a french version of Stones. Pep would unlock his ability and make him world class. For 50 its a no brainer if he is interested.

Iñigo would be a good signing at a reasonable price. £60m for Umtiti would be a snip tbh, would turn into the best CB in the world under Pep I reckon. Stones-Umtiti to lead us to back-to-back Champions Leagues :)

If 60 is a snip then his actual release clause is the bargain of the century.

release clause of Umtiti is a steal....but would he want to leave barca ?

After losing out on Van Dijk to Liverpool, Manchester City are ready to meet Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti’s 60m buyout clause. The Frenchman is interested in the Premier League and in Pep Guardiola’s project. [rac3]
