The problem now is that we defend as a team and yaya isn't mobile enough to implement the team press and so leaves a huge gap in the middle where Dinho normally operates. Its like we go from being this years team to last years team (defensively) as soon as he in on the pitch. Its a physically demanding position that he inherits from Dinho and he's not capable of filling it. He is done no favours by being put there.

To some degree he makes up for that with positioning and experience, but i agree that his slow pace will force other forward players to return sooner. Our team and style put high demands on athleticism and he does lack that now. In other ways he is still very strong and technical which somewhat mitigates his lack of athleticism, imho.

Never expected much from such an old man. If anything, I thought he'd be a big flop playing as our deepest midfielder last year but I was wrong. There have been a number of central midfielders we signed in the past that had they been successful with us, keeping Yaya would have been pointless. If it wasn't possible to replace everyone that required replacing (we were unwilling to proceed with signing Pogba and converted two AMs to CMs), attempts to improve central midfield in the past didn't work out and the management of the club thought there were other areas that required investment more than central midfield, then I can understand why Yaya is still with us up till now. Yes even the gaffer sanctioned this. For example, for the reasons stated above, I wouldn't say it was a bad idea to have him in the team last season. It was more a benefit to have him than a detriment, all factors considered.

what? he has got old and has come to the end naturally,no need to diss him
I'm not disrespecting the guy Karen he has been great for us in fact I'd say a City legend but for 3 or 4 seasons now he's been ineffective.

In fact I would go as far as saying his involvement over recent years has prevented us achieving further success as he completely changed the way we play.

The old Yaya though was first team starter all day.

Yes he's been far from great in the last few years but I wouldn't go as far as saying he's been the reason for our poor showing throughout this period. Simply put the team has had multiple problems which Pep seems to be finally fixing now. He certainly wasn't the reason why we had full backs who were neither good at attacking nor defending, you just couldn't put the issue of Bravo/Hart on him could you? He wasn't the reason why center backs were underwhelming or Delph's constant injuries last year or Fernandonho's poor form last year whenever he was called upon. Yes our attackers couldn't convert their chances and even the best player to ever wear the shirt underwhelmed the season before last albeit due to his ankle injury. These were some of the problems. As poor as he has been over the years, his impact in our last title win was evident. Even with his physical limitations, his title winning mentality came to the fore. To suggest we would have won more without him would be speculative at best.

Watching Yaya play football this season makes me sad. He's a legend but shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the pitch at this point.

Its like playing with 10 men whenever he starts.
Just said this on the media thread.

If someone comes in for him this month then we really should offload.
Very hard for us to say but his time is over with City and I'm very thankful for what he helped the club achieve. Will go down as one of the legends of the modern era but those kibd of days are now well and truly locked in the past

It's sad to see this Yaya. That said, I won't let this version of Yaya to tarnish my views on this legend. I prefer to remember the early years and peak Yaya in 2013/14.

I love Toure to bits and will always remember him fondly for all the highs he has given us.

It;s sad but in many ways he reminds me of our cat, she also once had boundless energy gave me many happy memories but recently deteriorated quickly and we sadly had to have her put down.

I'm feeling the same with Toure, maybe a bit harsh taking him to the vets though :)

We better keep Fernandinho fit because if he gets injured we are going sto struggle in the midfield and in the build-up.

Yaya is a club legend but this has clearly been one season too many.

He has given some great moments but he is a shadow of the player he was, slow and laboured, can’t we give him a retirement to one of the other clubs and free up his wages and an overseas spot in the squad ?

More like three seasons too many.

If Fernandinho gets injured we have to relocate someone like Delph or Gundaghan to holding midfield because Yaya is a big liability these days. He’s always been prone to being run past, and this problem was one of the reasons we were so terrible in the CL in the Mancini era. But now he gives us nothing at all: slows us down, gets in the way as well as being a defensive liability.

This guy is so immobile now. I'm half joking but: did he even press a single player? Like even one time?

Yaya had tickets for the best seats in the house it seems...........

What a liability he is in a critical backup position.

He is turning into Mc Manaman, all he does is point and pass sideways, you could count on one hand how many forward passes he made last night, sad to see,but another who has to go this month
