I disagree.

The league table is wonderful, but let it not distract from a woeful performance today.

I don't need cheering up, by the way. I have a cheery disposition by nature :) but thanks for the advice.
Wasn't a woeful performance, a little halfhearted as performances go but to state almost every City player was shite is overly reactionary and wrong, Pep said we were going to lose eventually.

how do we get offside so often. if Aguero's header had gone it it would have been a bitter pill to swallow. surely he was in line and should have judged his run better, great ball in and could have been a tap in if he was in-line, being that far advanced forced him to head the ball

Maybe pep should change his approach a bit against klopp. Klopp has a better h2h record against him with weaker sides also.

Liverpool have little else than the attempt to 'swamp' a team by pressing à la Klippity's Dortmund - remember that game against them some season's back. We were run off our feet and JH had a cracking game, and yesterday was no different. The kind of game we played and the way Klippity sets up was always on the cards for a torrid afternoon. Without the individual errors we might have got away with it, but when you gift the kind of opportunity that came The Dippers' way yer lucky to get anything out of the game.

Perfectly chilled but some people are falling into a trap where they think the league is done and dusted.....it aint and far from it.....yes we have been superb but we are picking up injuries and tiredness is kicking in. We have no recognised left back for a few games again (I'm including delph in that as he has done so well), Stones looks injured still, aguero looks like he is carrying an injury with Jesus not back for 2-3 weeks and no real quality cover at centre half with Kompany unreliable and mangala being a weak point....plus we have the ongoing situation with David Silva. We have no cover for Ferna (look how bad we were with Yaya in that role)
We have a hugely demanding schedule because we have been so successful but the squad is looking thin...if we have to start relying on Zinchenko at full back (not that he has done badly) and yaya should ferna pick up an injury we will start to drop points (its only natural)....

The league will finish closer than it is now.
I don't worry about the league, you're right with the left back problem but I don't think in the league it's an issue as our ball retention determines most of our wins, less importance on defenders. Same with the central defenders. I can see it being a huge problem in the CL though and elite teams will exploit that for sure but I've never considered us ready to win that due to the thinness in those areas. Next season with 2-3 more signings and Mendy back is more likely. Sticking my neck out I'd say premier league winners definite, EFL probably, FA Cup who knows?

It does to me, if he was even only 95% physically fit, then sending him on into what looked (suddenly) like a lost cause, given the likely mental state he is in right now, would seem silly.

Only those there could confirm that he was warming up just before their second goal, but the fans sang his name for several minutes, so I assume that he was, and that he might have come on, but the speed we went from "on top" at 1-1 to losing 4-1 probably made that decision obvious/easier.
We'll agree to disagree, because as far as I'm concerned in such an important match, a 95% fit Silva, is better than no Silva at all.

It was obvious to me we were ceding possession too easily which kept putting us under pressure. The whole ethos of Guardiola's possession based football was that keeping possession, was the most effective form of defence.

With that being said, we have no-one better at keeping possession, and therefore lessening the defensive burden than Silva, so why oh why was he not used, when it's obvious he was exactly what we needed?

Gundogan is no David Silva, & today showed how much weaker at the top end of football, we are without him. I'm sorry, but this is why I don't get your point, albeit I utterley respect your right to call it as you see it.

My thoughts on today,Stones is still playing his way back into form, after his injury.
A loss was bound to happen,at some stage, and at Anfield it usually means we lose.
Looking ahead,we have a whole week off, rest and recuperation is needed, this is the
first midweek break for many months and it is definitely needed now.
Pep may give them some time off to switch off,or maybe warm weather training.
Fernandinho and De Bruyne are looking tired,as are a few others.
I am not overly concerned about losing momentum,a rest and we have perfect opponents
in Newcastle next week to start again trying to build another long run of hopefully wins.
The defensive mistakes are related to fatigue in my opinion and having Liverpool in your face
harrying produced the opportunities for this to happen. They will never play as well again all
season after this cup final and given an extra few minutes we could have snatched a draw.
We win and lose together and many individual errors were made today, which we have to live with.
Losing Delph was a blow as Danilo is not as disciplined it seems. We missed merlin today,on the
positive side he may come back reenergised if his family situation improves, which is most important.
I wish all his family well and that recovery can continue.Aguero was a bit isolated today, the team
played well in spells,Sterlings confidence seems to take a knock once the booing starts, however he
will one day go to Anfield with City and really shine,he is still very young and learning.Passing and
decision making was erratic today, again I think a combination of too many recent games and the
absolute zero time on the ball afforded to us by Liverpool.Sanchez coming or not is down to external
factors to a degree,I would love him at City but if it doesn’t happen it’s not a huge issue,I admire our
transfer stance and demanding value in a sometimes crazy transfer market, especially in January.
Ederson was at fault for their fourth goal, however that’s the first time I can remember this happening.
Once Jesus returns we will have fresh legs again, remember there are 19 other teams in
our league would love to be in our position.Bad day at the office, the team spirit and character of this squad
will endure this and move on to better things over the next few months,I am sure.

We have been winning the games that matter all season except against Shakhtar, Everton, Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Granted that I wanted to win this game badly, I think this game hardly matters. It's basically a minor blip in a league we've already won. I'd argue that among the games you mentioned, only the Everton game mattered. What's important now is how we pick ourselves from this.

It ain't won yet but if we continue to perform like we have to date it should be with 4 or 5 games to spare.

It would be great to go through the season with one loss but if we lose three or four what a season given our LB and his replacement and captain have been injured throughout the season and the other long term injuries to Jesus , Stones and Kun playing injured for much of the season.

I don't think we were terrible today, just had a horrendous 5/10 minute spell where everything went wrong and sloppy mistakes were made. We were playing a well rested liverpool team, who always seem to have a cup final performance against us at Anfield. Hopefully a week off will do the team some good, and get back to business against Newcastle. Just how lucky are we to have Kev? The guy is world class and on top of that never stops running/pressing.

There is a reason why not many teams play open like this against Klopp's sides. Arsenal do and their record is much worse.

We have a good group of players that will be the core for the next few seasons but we can never rest easy and new blood must come in now to replace the likes of Yaya and VK as we farewell with best wishes the last few of the title winning side on that fateful day against QPR.

Kun I have no doubt is playing injured and he still has two maybe three seasons at this level in him if he stays injury free but we need to start to look at bringing in fresh forwards in the summer as Sanchez perhaps doesn't fit the bill after all despite our apparent interest in him in the past.

On top of that we have the best manager in the league presently and we saw with Fergie what a decent manager can do with sides that may not be world class on each line but collectively know how to get the job done with the right guidance.

First half: toe to toe, equal, a few whipped crosses missed.
Second half: mistakes costs us. Simple. Heads went after their third. BUT, we dug in and never gave in to get back to 4-3. 8 goals against Liverpool, with split points isn't a bad season outcome. Let's push on.

I agree. Nothing is won until 'Man City' is engraved in that cup. But as I've said before, it will take a bottling more extraordinary than our first half run for us to lose the league. All the flappers should calm down.

They had 36% possession - we got Leicestered...
They had more touches in our box, more shots, more shots on target and at one point were 4-1 up.

Possession means absolutely nothing in that sense, it’s not a positive and we weren’t controlling the game. The game was played exactly how they wanted it to be.

Not read the whole thread but Liverpool’s Greater intensity in that 20 minute second half game won them the match and deservedly so.

They were helped by the fact that we had played twice since their last game and they had keep players who were fresh like Sallah and Wijnaldum
