VAR (PL introduction 2019)

VAR is highlighting any situation where the rules are broken.
So either change the rules to allow more physical contact or realise that the ref misses somethings they have chronically missed in the past.

Thought it helped the ref make the correct decisions, what's the issue? maybe a screen saying under review and the outcome would help for those in the stadium.
Should stop the fouling in the box, and that should help City.

It has to be relayed on the screen to the crowd in real time.

If they dont do that and mike the ref up so his conversation can be heard then scrap it right now.

The refs will have just as much influence with what they refer and what they don’t.

Players will be asking for it and you can benefit the team by referring there’s and not others on penalty decisions.

Expect it to be no more fairer, just different!!

I agree they do that in Rugby and the NFL don't they?

Spot on.

VAR didn't look at anything last night, the Liverpool players did and contrast it to the Chelsea/Norwich game were the ref refused to be bullied by players.

Instead of it helping its just added yet another layer of almost secrecy for some officials to hide behind or if they want, use to alter a decision to suit possibly, some clubs and im certain we will see examples of it very soon whilst other clubs get shafted.

Not read the thread yet but obsevations:

Gazbaz pushed in back leading to the disallowed goal, letter of the law - penalty

Offside goal, marginal, used to be the daylight rule which would have meant the goal stood

Salah made a meal of it but no way was he getting the over hit pass, commonsense should have been no penalty

Pundits saying the Ref and VAR got decisions spot on, but according to how they interpreted VAR, no they didn't (in the first instance) I thought the original decisions however marginal were reasonable in live play in a fast paced game.

VAR is real passion killer in the game, bin it now.

There's no rules in football, pedantic I know but if you watch first foul is Barry receives a push in the back penalty for West Brom was the correct decision.

I've just said that to a dipper mate of mine and he says Barry was at it first pushing Mingulet. I've not seen it back yet so not sure if hes correct or away with the faries.....

By tomorrow Barry will have elbowed him in the face and tripped him as well ;)

i would say the theatrics from salah are secondary to the issue in hand, the initial point is whether the contact(and there was) from the west prom player meets the criteria of law 12 of the rules of football
http://www.thefa.com/football-rules.../football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct

what salah did next is up for further discussion

Law says holding an opponent is an offence, so penalty is correct decision!! If VAR means the laws will be correctly implimented, then I'm all for it.
2 or 3 games where these decisions are given will significantly reduce all the pulling and holding going on currently, which most people wanted something doing about. A. Win win, no?

Ha, I'm sceptical, will take a look later....
Don't bother, he'll probably tell you Ba fouled Gerrard in 2014 and Willian was offside for the second.

Fwiw I'd rather see either (a) the keeper allowed to protect their space at corners or (b) any blocking them from collecting a cross to be ruled as obstruction (which it is under the rules). Barry isn't standing there to try and attack the ball, his only purpose is to obstruct the keeper. At international level and CL level it's a foul so it's self defeating to allow it at domestic level in England.

So every time a player puts his arms or has any kind of slight tug on a player that player should throw himself theatrically whether near the ball or not to con everyone and good old VAR can give a pen. There would be a dozen pens in every game and based on last night that would hold the game up 48 minutes ! As others have said why did VAR not award WBA a pen for the push on Barry !? It cannot work for subjective decisions not just because it is subjective but because the ridiculous delays ruin the game !

the ref has to make a decision one way or the other in the first instance in any case, if tech is available to check his original decision it would be foolish not to use it.
i think we have to go down the rugby route and the ref will have to say is there any reason to not/award etc
ultimately its all down the ref applying the laws of the game.
timing is the big issue that needs to be improved

This is something I've always thought. We referee differently to the European continent which results in red cards at International/European/CL tournaments, we should help ourselves by reffing in-line with Europe. Dele Alli is a prime example of a red waiting to happen for England as he wont get away with his fouls.

VAR - keep it, it'll stop cheating in the long run from rag refs.

Him amongst others. I've said this plenty of times as an outsider as I'm not English. How on earth do you expect your players to understand how to play at international level when they play under different rules domestically? How do you expect your young players to develop a big game mentality and perform under pressure when they're allowed to behave like petulant and at times violent 10 year olds week in, week out?

Sergio Ramos is a great example, been highly rated in Spain since he was about 14. Plays for the biggest Spanish club and is a mainstay in the national team and a Spanish sporting hero. Holds the La Liga record for red cards.
