Probably can't issue more of a ban as the lawyers would get involved. As it is, they're out of the IPL and all cricket for a year, they'll miss the Sheffield Shield season next year, so they'll have no match practice either.

It isn't match-fixing; it's ball tampering.

Am I missing something here? Do CA have the power to inflict a 12 month international ban on the players? And can they force them to do 100 hours community service if they play club cricket? I can see Smith and Warner sacking off Australia and being global 20/20 players. If someone will sign them, which I'm sure they will.

They don't directly but they have to issue a no objection certificate to allow them to play. In this instance the BCCI have just decided they don't want them playing in the IPL.

Tbh the punishment is about right, or even a six month ban would of been enough

Its the fuckin bullshit that CA came out with yesterday in saying only these three involved

Do they really think folk have bought into that bollocks of a press conference.

Pretty much this.

It's pretty common for the different boards to fall into line on major disciplinary things, just as a UEFA drug ban will usually be enforced worldwide.

I think the sanctions are fair but I am at a loss as to how they have concluded that it’s (a) an isolated incident and (b) only three players were involved.

I feel the likes of Lyon, Starc, Hazlewood and Lehmann are very fortunate to have their names cleared and credibility in the game still in tact. Lehmann is particularly lucky as I cannot comprehend how he wouldn’t have known and the footage of him speaking over the walkie talkie is pretty damning evidence.

So...
Only 3 people new about it within the whole team and coaching set up. Even the bowling coach had no idea what was going on?!
Once again: cheating lying Australians. Don't they ever stop?
Just Aussies being Aussies I suppose. It's in their DNA.

Staggering that bowlers had no idea the ball was being tampered with by the use of sandpaper! In fact it's just implausible!

Apparently Lehmann said over the walkie talkie ‘What the fuck is going on out there?’. That’s his supposed excuse anyway, claiming he didn’t know anything about it.

I find it unbelievable that Lehmann is saying he knew nothing. Absolutely disgraceful. He should have been sacked to.
What was he saying on the walkey talkey ffs?

Whilst I think the bans are fair. At the end of the day they cant prove anyone else was involved. Cricket australia has just banned their 2 best batsman for a year so know one can say they would be trying to cover up other players involvements.

Does anyone else think this is being blown out of all proportions? Cricket has been rife with ball tampering over the years, even atherton caught doing it I think. Ok, maybe the punishment will deter it in future, but this while moral high ground the cricketing world is taking I find very distasteful. As for them disgracing their country, letting down there families, it’s cricket. It’s a game. No one died or was hurt. People really need to put it in perspective.

These 3 cricketers are getting worse treatment than that cop in America who shot dead an unarmed man with his pants down, what is world coming to.

How they have dealt with this just isn’t Cricket.

Scapegoating is never nice to watch. Shameful cowardice by all those who never stood up like men.

Bellends.
