Spot on and there is no better example of this than Pep's time at Barca.

The general consensus is that he inherited an all conquering side with the best players in the world. No mention of the fact that he took over at Barca when they had finished 18 points behind Madrid and behind Villarreal.

The same is happening here. The narrative is already being set that Pep took over a vastly superior side to United. That's despite both sides finishing level on points before Pep and Jose's arrival, with City having an aging squad and the likes of Otamendi and Sterling being ridiculed in all quarters.

It's funny how's this narrative wasn't apparent at the start of the season when the likes of Custos et al all backed United to win the PL.

Oliver Kay on Sunday pointed out that they'd been level when they took over. Fatman was not happy about that.

And City bought Walker, Danilo, Mendy, Jesus and Bernardo for the same money as utd paid for Pogba and Lukaku

Yeah and I watched the game at the time (and again yesterday) - and we were the better team and had more chances, more good chances and more goals - even before Mane committed assault and battery. Such lazy journalism.

My recollection of the game was that they played very well for the first 20 mins but after we scored we gradually started taking control, even before the sending off. I'm normally a bundle of nerves until we are three up but I seem to remember being fairly relaxed after Sergio scored. Did they have any/many chances between Sergio's goal and the sending off?

Pretty accurate but Salah was causing us no end of trouble with his pace and had a couple of good chances.

One shot on target. Despite this and the fact that City were already 1-0 up the likes of Alyson Rudd claim Liverpool could/should have been 3-0 up by the time Mane was sent off.

Salah got round the back twice and IMHO, both times was because we were playing the three at the back and wing backs, which I hope we don't ever do again
The first time he got away he scuffed a cross into the keepers hands, the second was the real chance, one on one where he should have done much better.
In between these opportunities, we had some real decent possession, numerous half chances, the Stones effort from eight yards which Mignolet did very well to keep out and obviously our goal

Media/pundits. Well what do they know, sweet FA,
How many of the above predicted we would win the league? None.
So all their predictions for tonight mean jack shit.

Like eveyone else, we were guilty of under estimating Salah at that time. Before the game I was convinced that Mane would be their main threat and I think Pep felt the same. During first half Walker & Danilo stayed fairly close to Mane whilst Salah was given acres of space. Mendy provided absolutely no support for Otamendi, barely setting foot in our half. He must have done that with Pep's blessing since he spent most of the half 10m away from him. Salah will clearly be a threat tonight but not in the same way. I thought we handled him fairly well at anfield apart from the mad 10 mins.

I expect we will see a return of the wing backs, once Mendy is back. Perhaps next season rather than this. I dont think it will be for every match as that would restrict Sane and Sterling's contribution, but certainly as a Plan B. The main problem at the start of this season was that none of the centre backs were remotely comfortable playing the left centre back position. But once Laporte is completely settled in and we've worked on the system in pre season it should be a viable option.

God it must have been a dream !.?. I just woke up and in the dream the headlines said :
"Liverpool thrown out of CL by UEFA for crowd trouble"

Won't be reading or listening to the media Dipper w*nk fest , because at the end of the day , the Dippers will win nothing apart from the self proclaimed most entertaining nearly men of the year. They might have a chance against an ageing Bayern team , but Real and Barca are far too good for them, another empty trophy cabinet awaits Klanfield but at least they would have made a few admirers along the way.

"Liverpool's destiny is the European cup"

I wonder who the journo on 5Live currently supports?

At least the negative press for them is now all over the media.

What was a great result and a great night for them is turning into a disgraceful night of behaviour by their fans.

BBC R5Live during last nights cometary: Commentators babbling away about the famous Klanfield atmosphere, then their anthem comes on. Both of them instantly shut up just as they cranked the volume up on their effect's mic's (almost like they were under instruction). They practically played the whole lot without a peep out of either one of them. It's like we weren't even playing.

Biassed Broadcasting Corporation!

We weren't. ..well not the first half at least.

Watched the entire match with the mute button on. The constant booing got to me as it did the players. Bet they don’t do it in the semis when they face Barca. Hate scouse scum far more than the rags these days.

Even watching it on BT I felt like City were the nasty foreign team standing in the way of the British chaps progression to the semi-finals.
