Liverpool (h) - CL QF post match thread

Said it last week and after Saturday and will repeat tonight - they have all the talent but severely lack big game mentality and experience in facing adversity so they just crumble under real pressure - this squad could not put out a team that would come back against QPR when 2 - 1 down in injury time. They would just throw their hands up and stop trying.

The characters and the abrasive approach of Mancini somehow worked. Pep can coach the bejesus into this lot but when they face a big mental test and a team getting in their face or its just not running for them they simply lack strength of character.
 
4 penalties over 2 legs, offside goal for pool, clear gol denied for us. What more is to say? We should have been 4,5-0 at half time if the ref wouldn t be there to stop us. And lets not start with the red cards. Klop is becoming like mourinho, telling his boys to hit us hard. Wish we had de Jong back.

I will say it again Venables spent a week working on defensive shape after going 3 nil down in a first leg. He knew the best way to go through was a clean sheet. Ship goals like we do against an average Liverpool side is not that impressive.

We’ll have the last laugh mate. In a few weeks we’ll be parading a league and cup double, whilst the rags and dippers will have won fuck all

We never stood a chance. When the officials are instructed to make sure we don’t win, it’s not going to happen.
Aside from the perfectly good goal being given offside and ignoring the foul that should have been a second yellow, the clearest indication of corruption was the fact that in spite of Otamendi lying on the ground for a minute and the blatant time wasting every goal kick and throw in, no time was added in the first half. He might as well have got the stadium announcer to tell Liverpool that they could waste as much time as they want and he’d ignore it. I think that had a big effect on how we played in the second half and contributed to the poor display after the break.
 
i'm not going to moan about decisions against us (even though there has been a fair few),i personally think apart from 2 very poor 15 mins from us over 3 games has cost us big time(im not counting 2nd had because we had to attack and leave ourselves open) we have been fucking excellent ,the football we have played against two of our biggest rivals has been outstanding ,in fact its been the best performances of the season in a way,i know that sounds strange after the week weve had but I really mean it. disappointed with the results but the football has been on another planet ,and think we will be even better next season, we need to circle the wagons now ,im not expecting much points wise from spurs after all the games over the last few days but I expect us to come back after the spurs game rested and determined to show how good we really are ,and can see a few walloping's handed out between now and the end of the season.

No mate, not just looking for a decision, my point is always someone to blame for it, not out tactics our players, always someone else it's getting boring now

You mean scored. There is a general misconception that he was personally involved ih the play when we got a penalty. In the season he scored (?) 13 penalties (Lee 1 (pen)), he was only involved in about 4, at least 2 of those being handled after he shot at goal. And that was over 40 years ago! What next - Biully Meredith diving for a penalty as "evidence" that we DO get decisions in our favour?

We don't defend in an organised manner because most of our players are coming back from the attack, so we always seem to concede a goal from any counter attack, so you have decide as a fan what you want, all out attack, pep style or a bit more organised , klopp style? I am definitely a city fan before I get slated and want to win every game but there are pro's and cons of pep. I was at the Bayern game at home when we won 3 2 and they were better than us with 10 men but somehow we overcame the press and won and I think it's the same now, teams are starting to realise we can't do it for 90 minutes? CITD

Point is as just replied to someone else, bored of after every defeat it's always someone else to blame, never the tactics, never pep, never the inability of our players to finish chances, never our defenders for defending like school kids, never mind, it will always be someone else to blame

Very droll
The point I was making was that our best chance of proceeding was being defensively sound. From the line up Pep saw different.
Mancini used to do my head in when he thought playing 3 forwards made you more likely to score goals. If it's not your normal formation it doesn't. They get in each others way.
We were always going to concede today.
 
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Whatever the rights and wrongs, We need to learn from these last few games and come back stronger.

Don't recall anyone complaining about the ref when we lost to Liverpool in the league. Pep and the team were rightly critised.

That's because there wasn't any bent decisions.
