Trump is on trial here and his lawyers (and the right wing media) are going to defend him by attacking his accusers credibility, that's just what always happens. All they need to do is create doubt that he is 100% credible and Comey has made their jobs a hell of a lot easier by giving them this ammunition.

Trump has been poisoning the well (most every well, actually) for months. Trump is nothing like “on trial” with his base. They already believe Comey is full of it because Donald has told them so. This book doesn’t do anything but give Comey a forum to answer the torrent of character assassination already leveled against him.

You may have a point about the timing of the book, as it may prejudice some aspects of the investigation. Trump’s lawyers will certainly use it to his advantage in any impeachment hearings.

There aren’t going to be any real impeachment hearings unless Trump’s milqetoast GOP defenders (not his most rabid ones — those who suddenly believe their own careers and the GOP mandate generally are in peril) flip on him, like they did Nixon. If there are it won’t be because the case relies materially on Comey.

If what he says is true, eventually the ammunition they feel they have is on a fuse. His motives will not feature in any investigation. What he says will. The right wing press and The ****’s lackeys cannot divert a criminal case. It only makes it worse for them.

I am well aware of the real world. The only way to counter corruption is a stealthy collection of evidence. The rising panic in the responses, tells you all you need to know about how their arses are twitching.
