Southampton (A) Pre Match Thread

With the players that were given the night off last night likely to play, that means
Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, KDB, Sterling will all start and almost certainly Jesus too, that just leaves 3 spots between Fernandinho, Bernardo, Sane, Foden, Mendy I guess, with Diaz on the bench and maybe Muric instead of Bravo.
I don't know why, but I got the impression last night was Zinchenko's last game too?
 
Full strength for Sunday and let's get the century of points! Cant believe I'm typing this. Wow, what a season!

Is Stones fit? I expect Zinchenho will be loaned out again next season, or sold if we get a decent offer and he wants to move If Mendy & Delph stay fit there will be limited opportunities for him.

Get Foden involved at some point as well. Could start instead of Bernardo but we should ensure we finish with 100 points first.

Agree with Diaz thought he looked dangerous when he came on last night......has Jésus lost his way a bit?
 
It’ll be nice to see Mendy start from the off.
Southampton could also see how fast he is without the crutches lol
I’ll go for a comfortable 2-0 win and 100pts.

I think so, played 70 mins against Huddersfield and don't think it was an injury substitution, just an attacking one to try and win the game?
 
The players that were rested last night are probably going to play. So that means :
Ederson,
Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph,
KDB, Fernandinho , Bernardo ,
Sterling , Jesus , and Sane.
Bench: Juliet , Mendy , Laporte ,Danilo , Gundog , Foden , Diaz ,
I don't suppose Kompany will play on Sunday after playing last night. I also thought that Danilo had a very good game and could replace Walker , who has not been at his very best - the last few games. I think Jesus will start but even he has "not been pulling up trees" , so maybe Pep will play the false 9 card. with Gundog playing and Bernardo roaming as a false 9.
Hughes will play it tight - not wanting to lose their last home game.
Come on City - The Centurions banner awaits.

When he came off I assumed it was because they didnt want him to play 90 mins after being out for a while. But I thought I'd read that he was waving to the bench before he came off?

I thought exactly the same as well. When he was subbed he gave a very longing look around, almost a goodbye. May well of been just last home game of the season thanks, but it was the first thing i thought as well.

I hope tht Meny starts and we will get 100 points, others i ont care that much, Foden should get 20-30 minutes playing time aswel.Nmecha looked quite lost yesterday ,didnt know what to do or how to press, you need to be ready 100% if you get the chance in this kind of club ,you dont get them many

Also, most away wins and most away points. 50 points at home and 50 points away would be a dream scenario.

It's a difficult selection to call for this game. It's such an unique opportunity to get to 100 points so we surely have to play something close to our established first choice XI. However, I would like to see Mendy start. He'll want to prove his fitness ahead of the World Cup and he looked sharp last night. It'd be great to give him 60 minutes to whip those crosses in.

I don't think he will, but it would cap an amazing season for Foden to be handed his first Premier League start and i don't think he'd let us down if he had a strong team around him. I'd love Foden and Diaz to feature in order to officially become Premier League champions. Set them on the road to chasing down Giggs' record of 13 titles nice and early! Semi-joking aside, i do think it's vital that we keep giving them minutes for their development in these end-of-season games and both players have slotted in very well when we have called on them.

Jesus' form is all over the place at the moment. Having been rested when in great form, Sterling has to come back into the team and both Sane and Bernardo did well enough to keep their places too. I'd be tempted to drop Jesus to the bench and go with a fairly interchangeable front three from the start.

Yeah ,Jesus has looked rather poor in those last matches.
