Unfortunately you're allowing yourself to be sucked in to the myth and hyperbole of utd previously being side full of flair and attacking intent, a myth generated and espoused by the rag loving sycophants that are the UK media.

Even during their most successful periods under the GPC utd were primarily about defending in numbers, constant pressing of the opposition not allowing them to play and then attacking on the break... it required a high level of discipline and work rate as well as ruthless efficiency at taking their chances (which is something they've always seemed to possess) but they were never a real flair or cavalier, all out attack, caution to the wind, type of side

Maybe there's an element of the myth here but I do think you're being unfair. From the Busby babes (before my time) through to the team of Best, Law and Charlton and then to the best teams under Fergie, they were attacking teams.

Watched a vid on Full Time Devils ( sadly can't find it ) in which even Adam McKola an avid rag debunked this claim and said at times under the GPS they played pragmatic defensive football to grind out results.

Having watched that I almost feel sorry for Mouriniho
He's been held up as the anti-Christ to some forgotten time of swashbuckling Manchester United era that is, in reality, only a myth in the eyes of the media. And that same media that have built this myth of the all conquering fantastic football are now crucifying him for not delivering the impossible dream.
He can't win unless he suddenly become Pep v2.0 and a combination of Brasil of the early 70s and Pep's Barca.

Spot on. There are no disciples of the Ferguson way for a reason.

Ferguson was outstandingly successful but no revolutionary, 1-0 victories were his hallmark, after squeaky bum time and a little bit of Fergie time. When he came up against a real visionary like Pep he had his arse handed to him.

Ferguson was just the biggest dinosaur in the age of dinosaurs.

Fergie also knew that City were not just there to make the numbers up in the PL.He shit himself, when he realised that we would be bigger of the two Manchester (for want of a better word) clubs and retirement was his only way out to save any embarrassment.

This would be the "not ready" Rashford who last season was hailed as the new Jizzy Jazzy and who, worryingly, is off to the World Cup
