New Kits 2018/19

Why do the majority of football shirts look so cheap and tacky. They are mega expensive - so why do so few look any good.

Because that would cost them more money and eat in to their profit margin - they don’t need to do that, we will buy them anyway

You are obviously right - but I look at that new home shirt and just think I can buy 101 better tops for that money. At my age I don’t want to wear something as naff as that however much I love city. I’m really not sure how these highly paid marketing execs at City think that the tat being made by Nike does anything to enhance our brand. I went into the City shop the other day and even the training stuff this season looks horrendous- that’s been okay in recent years but not this year.

Go down the classic and retro route. There’s an ironic cool to them but my old Kappa jerseys get lots of attention and compliments at the match.

There’s fan designs too. My mate The Ginger Wig has some great merch.

Not sure about that one, however their third kit is more like it... change the neck trim to white, and i'd be happy with this...

That would actually be perfect. I wouldn't mind keeping the Heather texture aswell.

I wonder what they were thinking when they came up with that neck line? It’s like they just thought ‘fuck it’.
Just watching the Uruguay-France match, which feature the Marseille Puma template being shown above and the Nike one for our shirt next season, and the contrast on how they look on the players is stark.

The Uruguayans look like they have been fitted for the shirts, whilst the French look as if the kitman forgot the bags at home and went down to he local knockoff shop to get kits just in time for the match.

The Nike template neckline looks awful on players at peak physical condition... that alone should make Nike designers ashamed.

If you look closely it's the same material as our 3rd Kit from Last Season.
Portsmouth have the same Kit in a Darker Blue.
If you look less closely, it is a variation of our template last season, with our new, rather hasty ‘henley’ neck tacked on.

This is what Nike does in order to capitalise on economies of scale and realised production efficiencies across their world network of production hubs. Lesser clubs get slightly altered “old” templates, or exactly the same one or two year-old templates, for either lower cost (in the case of the teams that are not worthy of outfitted contracts) or for low outfitting deals (for the teams that *just* make the grade to be “sponsored” by Nike).

Even so, that “lesser” Coventry kit is still much better than our “bespoke” travesty.

This will be the first year in many many years when I don't get the home shirt. Tried it on with my lad the other day. The kids one looked very average on him and my adults one looked like I'd grabbed it off the market in Phuket. Cheap material combined with a poor design and shapeless fit. If I was on the board at City and they walked in with these as samples they'd be walking straight out again. While I was in the shop I tried on a few other Nike bits and pieces for training and they are all the same cheap crappy feel. Went to the Under Armour stuff and the quality is miles better. Shame we won't be going with them when the contract ends.

I can never work out why Umbro are still able to turn out decent designs and reasonable quality despite the fact they are own by Nike.

Nike sold Umbro like 6 years ago mate.

You can’t lay all the blame at Nike’s door. Someone at the club signed that disgrace of a home kit off, when it was presented the club should have said a big fat NO

I think they get three choices mate and have to chose one? My son got a player edition kit and has load of compliments at footy training etc
